So I looked through the advanced game search options and some other areas and I didn't see a way to do this yet, but it seems like a feature that wouldn't be hard to implement (if it isn't already, and i just can't find it).

But that is, is there a way for BGG to look at the games I have played, the rankings I have given, then compare that to everyone else who has played and ranked the same games similarly, and then build a list of games I haven't ranked that are top ranked from "similar" users as myself.

Basically I would love it if the Geek could automagically look at my gaming preference and style through my rankings, and come up with the top 10, 100, whatever games that are unranked (so in theory unplayed) by me, and the "Your rating" type rating for the game.

I know Netflix does something like this with movies, the more movies I ranked the better it can look at genre, other user preferences, etc and recommend movies for me. I think it would be awesome (and highly useful) if the geek could recommend games for me.

Is this already possible? And if not, would anyone else be interested in using something like this?

Thank

Try this. It is on the Games tab of your profile. Just under the ratings distribution chart.

I tried this. Age of Steam? Cool, it's on my wishlist. Hamburgum? I'm interested, okay, okay....Tiddledy Winks??? Seriously? What the balls?

It then picks back up with Die Macher and Brass.

It's not a perfect tool. There was a point were there was a point were crokinole was showing up for everyone, even people who hated dexterity based games. If you look in the forums about a year ago there was some discussion of this. The tool is getting better, but lets face it until we have a true AI it is just a computer comparing stats and looking for patterns.

You can also basically make a rough "mirror" of yourself by using the "Similarly Rated:" feature on each game page.

If you for example select this feature for each game that you have rated highly... for example your 12 most highly rated games:

http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/18602?minr...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/36218?minr...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/21763?minr...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/30549?minr...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/2651?minra...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/555?minrat...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/12?minrati...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/28143?minr...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/1270?minra...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/34635?minr...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/54?minrati...
http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/similar/thing/1345?minra...

Then choose to look at the ratings of users who have rated your highly rated games highly as well (for example between 8-10)... then you can see what other games those users like as much.

For example, these games show up the most times as being highly rated by others (>8.00) on those results lists:

1 Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization 12
2 Twilight Struggle 12
3 Age of Steam 11
4 Le Havre 11
5 Brass 11
6 Die Macher 7
7 Goa 6
8 Imperial 3
9 Age of Empires III: The Age of Discovery 3
10 1960: The Making of the President 3
11 Commands & Colors: Ancients 3
12 War of the Ring 2
13 Small World 2
14 Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage 2
15 Space Alert 1
16 Crokinole 1
17 YINSH 1
18 Railroad Tycoon 1
19 Civilization 1
20 Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition 1

Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization and Twilight Struggle were rated at >8.00 on all 12 lists which tells me there's a very high probability you might like these games as well.

Age of Steam, Le Havre and Brass also showed up with average ratings >8 on 11 out of 12 lists which also tells me they have a high probability of being games you might like.

No recommendation system will be perfect or probably even great but this is as good as any in finding games that might be appealing.

You can play around and expand the lists... by looking at all the games you rate 8 and above... which is 29 at the moment which may give you an even wider view.

Edit:

Here's the updated results list using all 29 games that you've rated 8 or above:

1 Twilight Struggle 29
2 Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization 28
3 Age of Steam 25
4 Brass 25
5 Le Havre 24
6 Die Macher 17
7 Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage 11
8 Goa 10
9 Commands & Colors: Ancients 9
10 War of the Ring 8
11 Imperial 8
12 Age of Empires III: The Age of Discovery 5
13 1960: The Making of the President 4
14 Crokinole 4
15 Small World 3
16 YINSH 3
17 Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition 3
18 Railroad Tycoon 2
19 BattleLore 2
20 Tichu 2
21 Space Alert 2
22 Hammer of the Scots 1
23 Paths of Glory 1
24 Cosmic Encounter 1
25 Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) 1
26 Friedrich 1
27 Civilization 1
28 Wallenstein 1
29 Lord of the Rings - The Confrontation: Deluxe Edition 1
30 Netrunner 1

Twilight Struggle is still a perfect 29 for 29. As close to a perfect recommendation as you'll likely see.

Through the Ages is 28/29 and a very strong recommendation.

Age of Steam is 25/28... a high chance you'll like it.

Brass is 25/28... ditto and definitely worth looking at.

Le Havre is 24/28... definitely worth a look as well.
