Independence Day is upon us. The United States of America is celebrating another birthday. Even those of us from other countries enjoy a good birthday party, so why not have one on BGG in the form of a math trade?

Request GeekList: http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/43781
Trade GeekList: http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/43775

Use of the On-Line Want List Generator (OLWLG) is required for this event (please remember to tip JeffyJeff some GG for his support).

Please do not delete items or sweeteners once you have listed them. You can always submit a blank want list for an entry if you've traded it away before the deadline.

OK - some simple rules - please take a few minutes to read them:

1) Gift certificates, Geekgold, DVDs etc are all permitted.

2) Gift certificate and GG arbitrage are NOT allowed. Neither are cash offerings.

3) Non-game entries must be added as "Outside the Scope of BGG" (game id 23953) or "Miscellaneous Game Accessory" (game id 5985) and must include the +altname+ brief description -altname- format in the description of your item.

If you are offering an expansion for which there is no entry in BGG (for instance expansion cards handed out at Essen) and NOT the base game, please use "Miscellaneous Game Accessory" to help avoid confusion.

4) You are expected to describe, as accurately as is reasonably possible, the condition (components and box), language and edition of your item in the description. This includes sweeteners if they are physical items (i.e. not GG).

For games not brand new (in shrink) you must inventory the game's components and list anything missing. Do not assume it's complete. Also, remember that just because something is "new in shrink" that doesn't mean that you shouldn't disclose any dings. It might not matter to you, but it matters to some people.

If the game and/or expansion you are listing is a "Print & Play" make that clear in the description (and I recommend you give specifics what it was printed on, mounted on, etc).

If you are listing an expansion if you reference the base game in the description be clear one way or the other if you are including the base game or not. Do not include a link to the base game unless you are including it as this looks, in the OLWLG, as if you are.

5) Your shipping restrictions must be clearly stated and if you are not covering full shipping, you must state precisely how much of the shipping you will cover. You are not permitted to require a specific amount for shipping from the recipient and must cover at least the first $5 of shipping costs for items you send out. "Mirror shipping" is not allowed. People will offer to pay what they think they can afford, within the rules - if you don't like someone else's shipping policies, then don't put their items on your list. Any ambiguity will be interpreted as generosity on your part. This means that if you don't include a shipping policy, then it is assumed that you will ship anywhere in the world for free!

If you are not covering full shipping within your own country, please state clearly where you are shipping from as this will help anyone who is trying to figure out their shipping cost for your item.

6) Sweeteners are to be listed using either the GAMEID formatting (prefered, example Hansa) or a link to the game's page (this will look like http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/8989). If you don't use this format your sweeteners won't show up in the OLWLG properly.

7) If you've been reported as a bad trader, you cannot participate. If you try to, I will remove your entries.

8) Please do NOT include links to other games in your entry unless you are actually including them as a sweetener, as this is displayed in a misleading manner by the OLWLG.

9) If you feel the need to use them, please keep disclaimers short and to the point so they don't make things hard to read. If you need to use a longer disclaimer, please include a link to it in each of your entries instead of copying the whole thing into each entry - thanks.

10) Finally - you are expected to periodically check during the item submission period, and preferably during the want list submission period, to see if anyone has commented on your entries. People often ask questions of items - most commonly because you have forgotten to state a version, language or shipping policy - and you should check in to address such questions in a timely manner should they arise, so that everyone then has the correct information available.

This is a very easy thing to do. Just click on "My Geek", then "Contributions" and finally on "GeekList Items". You will then be able to see your items without having to find them in the trade GeekList along with any comments that people have made. You will only need to go back to the trade GeekList to make adjustments or answer questions if there were any.

OLWLG Help: http://boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/OLWLG

Software Used: TradeMaximizer 1.4 with duplicate protection. SEED=1234567, ITERATIONS=100, METRIC=USERS-TRADING

List Cap: None

Maximum Submissions Per User: Unlimited

Geekgold restrictions:

Users may not post more geekgold than they currently have. Geekgold arbitrage is not allowed.

Key dates (all times CENTRAL TIME)

Open for posting games: Tuesday, June 30th (5pm) until Sunday, July 5th (Noon)

Want list submission period: Sunday, July 5th (Noon) until Tuesday, July 7th (10pm) - no extensions!

Results posted about an hour thereafter.

Please note that it's best to work on your want list and submit them early - you can always make changes and resubmit later. This will prevent you from being left out if you forget the deadline.

Also: Creating want lists is not the same as submitting them. To submit them you will need to click on the "Submit My Wants" button. If you're not sure how to find this, consult the documentation referenced above or ask in the discussion thread.

When you submit your want lists, you will receive a confirming GeekMail. If you don't get one, your want lists haven't been submitted. Your want lists in the GeekMail may be truncated - this is fine.

Want list submission

Submissions may be made at any time after the 25th at noon, but only by the OLWLG. If you will be unavailable during the want list submission period but still wish to participate, contact me directly and we can discuss alternatives.

Note: only errors by the moderator will invalidate the results.

Also in the case that there is a problem after the results are posted, at most it will only invalidate the affected trade chain(s) and not the entire results set. In addition if the problem can be resolved by the most directly affected party or parties, then that is perfectly acceptable.

Re: The Independence Day Math Trade - Discussion Thread
For anyone who cares, this will almost certainly be the last math trade I can moderate for the next 2-3 months (and perhaps even participate in). But we have lots of other people with experience who can do these, so I'm sure you'll continue to get your MT fix.

Thanks for running another trade Jack, and for making it happen right after the current Canadian math trade is set to end.

No problem Roger. I try to plan these to clash as little as possible with other events. Unfortunately my own schedule didn't allow me to avoid a clash the SoCal no-ship event...

So, BGG will be going down either July 5th at about 9:00am, or July 7th at around 3:00pm. This is good to know.

No, no, he probably isn't... shake

Anyway, are us furriners allowed to join in? I realise no-one will want to post anything I want across the Atlantic, but I like to try...

It kind of sucks, but there IS a way to get traders from the US.
What you'd need to do is not guarantee postage both ways, but offer games you'd be willing to take substantially lesser games for in return.
Or post games not readily available here.
Basically, what I've learned is that sending an average sized game almost anywhere in the civilized world will cost ~$20-25 from the US. Excepting Canada which is a bit cheaper.
I never rule out an overseas listing without consideration, but I do take into account the added postage.

Actually, what I lack is trade bait. Nothing I have left that I'm prepared to trade attracts offers. But I'll try again...shake

Re: The Independence Day Math Trade - Discussion Thread
I'll always have a bash, if only because there is so much good stuff on offer in the US-based trades. I can still manage to offer free postage because we are fortunate enough to continue to have a surface mail option. My last shipment came to only a little over £8 i.e. about $12. Yes, it takes 8 weeks plus but it is FREE. If the game I want in return is worth it I will also stump up another $10 or $20 to assist the kind sender from the other side of the pond as well.

Wouldn't want you guys to think that all us Brits are softies!

Will this MT be using the optional value on OLWGL? This will be my second MT after a successful no ship for Origins.

You can use the optional value to order things, but it will be purely for your own benefit in step 4. USERS-TRADING is an effort to maximize the number of trades and from the set of possible outcomes that reach that number to pick the one that has the most people trading. The optional values are not honoured using this metric.

I still rank things to help me check for errors that I might have made in step 4, but that's all it does for me.

Re: The Independence Day Math Trade - Discussion Thread
Well, I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs and waiting, because as some of you have already seen, we're all set up and ready to go.

The question (from which many others spring) is, should we open for submissions early or not?

How should I make such a momentous decision?

Should I make everyone wait, thus building the anticipation, or let those of you eagerly awaiting the start to get to it?

Should I base the decision on the promise of higher-value and Grail games being added? Should I base it upon the promise of seeing things that I added to the request list or have on my personal wish list? Or should I use the traditional method used in politics; accept bribes?

So many options... devil

Yes, I will give you either three dogs, or a triple-headed dog, if you open up the tradelist early.
