Is there any difference between the SPI and TSR Versions? I own the SPI version.

Perhaps, with their 'production' such as for the 'counters', with theirs being "glossy" and that odd 'die-cutting' approaches, oh and the 'box', or etc.

Is it possible to use an SPI set of maps with the TSR version? hex numbers/setup is the same?

IIRC, they rearranged the rules folders, but the map & counters are a straight reprint. Except the counters are glossy.

Which is the best Vintage? '76 or '83? Rather, is the newer version a necessity or will the older version suffice?

They are similar enough so if you have the original SPI game, it is not necessary to buy the TSR reprint.

It is worth noting that a few of the playtesters have stated that the upcoming DG version bears little resemblance to either the SPI or TSR versions of the game. Answering whether or not that is a good thing will have to wait until the game is released and played.
