http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/25613

It's on sale at Gamesbyjames.com for $55.99 and can be combined with a $5 off of $25 promotional code to drop the price down to $50.99.
http://www.gamesbyjames.com/browse.cfm/4,4505,1,0,0.html

They do not state which edition of the game this is. Residents of MN and WI will have to pay tax on the purchase. There are additional shipping charges for residents of Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada.

Edit to include info from Matt:
It's now 48.96 at Boards & Bits + 11 Shipping.

Cool that you posted this but too bad that even WITH discounts it still feels like a rip-off.

I emailed them to see what edition. Their response:

Quote:
Thank you for your e-mail. Our Through the Ages is the 2nd Pritning (sic) of the game, and is the most recent edition. The manufacturer is planning on a 3rd Printing to release later this year.

This is pretty ambiguous, isn't it? The third printing (second from FRED) has already been released. At least that's my understanding...

What do these games have in common, besides being great and designed by the same person?

A: They are all way too expensive

is this edition worth buying, or wait for the next edition and probably back to even higher regular price?

how many errors / changes will there be?

Nothing that can't be fixed with a few minutes and a sharpie marker. I seriously doubt the new printing will have anything that changes things significantly.

Also, as the game being too expensive, it isn't THAT bad compared to a lot of other games with a similar number of components.

The issue of whether or not it is too expensive has been argued before and will probably be argued again, but nevertheless, it is a matter of opinion.

And chances are FRED's opinion is they priced it just right since they've sold out 2 printings now.

All that tells me is that there are a lot of people with money to blow, apparently. I doubt I'll ever purchase a FRED game but who knows, maybe someday.

This is listed as the "Czech Games Edition" version. Not sure what their 2008 printing was compared to the FRED / Eagle version though.

Yes, good catch. We have the Eagle Games edition (same as everyone), we just hadn't updated the publisher from the previous edition.

Thanks,

So you don't like good board games. No biggie. I'm sure LCR is plenty fun for you.

So what's going on, how can you sell so low?

Since a new edition is coming out (don't know when), we were allowed to drop the price of this edition. There aren't that many copies left, but if we weren't allowed to discount them, they'd never sell against the new edition.

Does that mean the new edition will have corrections from the previous printing?

Or better question, what are the differences in printings?

No, and in accordance with tradition for this game, they've included some new card printing errors.

Based on what?

Game is on it's 3rd English edition already. This would seem to imply they have underpriced it.

Or they have small print runs, or they could be on their 10th printing if it was more reasonably priced...

Based on the price of the game in comparison to the price of every other board game.

Listen, I get it, you love the game and want to sex it up. I love it too. But don't pretend like the price of the game isn't outrageous when you put it next to the other 90 percent of games you see on any website.

Listen, I get it, you love the game and want to sex it up. I love it too. But don't pretend like the price of the game isn't outrageous when you put it next to the other 90 percent of games you see on any website.

So all board games should cost the same? Is that it? Based on the collective ratings for the game, it would appear to be much better than "90 percent of games you see on any website," so they should logically be able to command a higher price for it. A Ferrari costs more than a Porsche, which costs more than a BMW, which costs more than a Cadillac, which costs more than a Chevy, which costs more than a Kia. Which one is over-priced?

Price is related to value. If you don't see much value in the product then pretty any price is going to be too high. For you personally it might not be worth it, and therefore to YOU it might be over-priced. But I offer up the fact that it has sold pretty well which seems to indicate that people tend to think it has a lot of value and therefore is worth the price.

It's a niche product in a niche industry. They will set the price to maximize their ROI, not their sales volume.

So your BMW is only two spots higher than my ugly old Chevy. That's great news.
