I don't see myself getting The Great Pacific War anytime soon and would like to know how much of this expansion I can enjoy if I only own John Prados' Third Reich & Third Reich/Great Pacific War Player's Guide.

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you!

It's basically a book of historical essays, most of which have some variant rules (sometimes counters).

Most of the book is about the European theatre, primarily Romania, Greece, Turkey and Iran (including a new map, deluxe scale). I would say about 3/4 of the book is orientated to JP3R.

Put it this way, of the 80 new counters, 5 are for the combined game, and about 15 for the Pacific.

You forgot that the map connects directly to the European map!

I would recommend you get it all; Great Pacific War, Rumors of War and the whole deluxe map. I recently got the entire corpus, after reading the whole history of the early problems with the games. I became convinced that the problems were well and truly solved with the deluxe map and the third edition rules. I have not regretted that decision. An interesting and comprehensive take on the entire war, with considerable replayability value.

Mind you, I got this at a time when I have been severely reducing the number of games I own...down from over 500 to just 57 and still falling. But this is a keeper.

Edited for spelling and also to add, I continue to really like this game and I think Rumors is a great addition, even if you only have and want JP3R.
