This seems to be a rather obvious tweak, but I really had to think some time until I've found this easy solution. So, if you don't like the flipping element of the game or are unable to properly flip those tokens (my wife needs to practice a lot!), use this as a replacement action:

Select a token you want to play. Roll a die.
Odd number = odd value of the token
Even number = even value of the token

As the tokens are 0/5, 1/4 and 2/3 the result will be always unambiguous.

Stefan has created an "offical" variant to flipping.
This is the German video
http://www.cliquenabend.de/index.php?page=videos2&play=duell...

I checked out the video and the official variant goes like this:
1] Players keep their influence tokens hidden.
2] Play the low value (influence token) without money, playing the high value costs 2 gold.
3] Winner and loser both return ALL neutral influence tokens to a bag. Personal influence tokens return to the player.
4] New influence tokens are drawn from the bag.

So also loser has to carefully decide whether or not to spend tokens [and money] as played neutral tokens are lost. And obviously you don't know if you will lose once the bidding starts.

I created my own custom dice to avoid having to do the coin flips.
