Hi,

I was hoping for some interesting recommendations for pub gaming.

Maybe 2 player, able to go on a small space.
Ideally beer resistant but that isn't too important. It is more a social thing than a getting wasted thing.

I think HIVE is a good bet?

Any small 2 player card games would be nice to think about too.

Cheers!

I remember when I was looking into the gipf series, a bunch of 2 player abstracts, there was somebody who had reviewed quite a few of them. His review style was strictly based on how well the game held up in the pub.

Here is a link to all of his reviews, all of them listed as a pub players review of ... http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/browse/boardgame/0?username=... Those might help you out with some decisions. I never play in that setting so I'm not sure what would work well, but I thought I'd bring your attention to those reviews.

Lectio is a great pub game. But it only plays with 3, 4 or 5. Kind of a cross between Dominos, and Poker.

I agree with you, go with HIVE. As for as small two player card game, try San Juan

Liar's Dice is my favourite bar game. Easy to carry, all you need is 5 dice per player. If you lose pieces, they're easily replaced. Dice are extremely beer resistant. It's easy to turn into a drinking game (lose a die, take a drink). And it's a helluva good time!

Hive is good to.

Our two favorites are:
1) BrewMaster: The Craft Beer Game, which has a laminated plastic board that is easily wiped if beer spills on it, and it is beer-themed, and it is also a decent game, to boot.

2) Tally-Ho, which has a small footprint and is an excellent two player game that is also playable in under 45 minutes (easily), if that matters.

Hive is a great choice, and you might check out Fjords.

Also, read about Mate. It uses 20 cards from a regular deck, and is perfect for playing where spills might occur. Just toss the cards and get out another deck if necessary. The entry here has everything you need to learn the game, but the game is explained in more detail in the book A Gamut of Games.

Just recalled a few more. Pin International has a series of wooden games that are good and also spill resistant due to being all wood and no cards. One of my favorites of theirs is Fire and Ice

If you're including traditional card games, you might like to give Watten a try.

I second this recommendation. It's waterproof, easy to learn and teach, and it's a press-your-luck game -- not unlike many drinking dice games.

I've actually played this one in a pub with 3-players some years ago. Great theme. If your players enjoy rummy games, this is a good one.

Liar's DicePerudo!! a version of Liars Dice that can accomodate more people, I believe upto 6. Can get beer spilled on it, no problem, it can also get loud and attract a crowd in a pub, not to mention it can become a drinking game......lots of fun!!!
