If there are any fans of the interrobang here, could you please explain what the need for it is? Seems like we're able to get by very nicely with the punctuation symbols we already have. Just wondering, as I've never heard anyone give their position for it.

Are you mad?!

What a mess that is, two punctuation marks to describe both a question and strong feelings/high volume.

Are you mad‽

See how much cleaner that is and it does the exact same thing.

Larry, if you don't cook, then many kitchen implements seem superfluous and excessive, but if you are in the kitchen all the time many are a wonderful treat to use and make your efforts much more efficient.

FAIL!

Or is that Fail?!

Given how seldom this seems to come up and how little effort is necessary to adequately reflect it when it does, I just don't see the need to modify keyboards all over the world to handle this. That's my main puzzlement over this. I can think of all sorts of vocal inflections I'd like to be able to represent in text (Victor Borge's classic Phonetic Punctuation routine comes to mind), so why is this one such a big deal?

I personally favor the two mark combination. Not only is it already available, it is more versatile.

Examples. If you are yelling a question you would write.

"Where did you put the fire extinguisher?!"

Notice the ? first followed by the !

Now, if you were yelling a statement questioningly, you would write:

"You lost the fire extinguisher!?"

Notice the ! before the ?

Plus, I think a statment that is both questioning and exclaiming should get two punctuations to help emphasise it's double puncuationality.

No, no, no.

If you are yelling the statement questioningly, you write:
"You lost the fire extinguisher?‽"

If you are yelling the question statementingly, you would write:
"You lost the fire extinguisher!‽"

If you are yelling the question, but the 'fire' extinguisher was actually filled with cheese-whiz, you would write:
"You lost the fire extinguisher‽?"

Etc, etc...

See?
