So, I'm thinking of proposing to my girlfriend, which makes me think of wedding cakes.

Yes, I love cake, haha.

I know it's a long way off, but I was also thinking of a way to propose, and started thinking about cake, idk.

We love to play board games together.

Anyway, I started thinking of a board game cake, and wondering which game to make either for a wedding or a proposal cake, like, give her the cake and have the ring on it or something.

Any ideas/suggestions?

We play catan, agricola, stone age, etc...

Our current flavor is Small World, she likes it because she can beat me, haha.

I think Small World could work really well as a regular cake.

The maps are very colourful and wonderful to look at. Couldn't speculate on the difficulty, as I have no experience in cake decoration.

For a wedding cake, Catan might be good for that. Easy to have multiple layers, perhaps each a different type or combination of hex?

Wedding cakes? Hey, I know wedding cakes.

Coming up on my first anniversary (Holy Crap! that was fast) means that I still have "cake planning" in my head.

First, shop around. Some wedding cake companies won't do custom cakes (especially if they are a far cry from the normal cakes). Once you find a company you're comfortable with, ask for pictures of the custom cakes they have done. They should have lots of examples to show their work.

Second, and this is just me thinking here, try not to pick something too complicated for your cake. The more complicated something is, the more likely it's going to get screwed up. When you pick the theme you like, take a picture of exactly how you want your cake to be (or three or four) and give them to the company. They'll need a blueprint.

Not to dissuade you, but check out Cake Wrecks (http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/). This website will show the best, but usually the worse, that can happen with cakes. Actually, if you look back far enough, you'll find some AMAZING cakes with LotR themes! They are more like works of art than cakes,

I think I should point out it would be professionally made, haha. I wouldn't be making it.

I was thinking of Catan, but I didn't really know how to incorporate a couple into that. That's why agricola came to mind, because there's a man and a wife, or Stone Age, because of the Hut, or idk.

I figured you weren't, but then again, you may have been a master baker.

Eh, eh!

I was looking at Cake Wrecks and found this: http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2009-05-01...

Near the bottom of the page is a cake that everyone at BGG can appreciate!

Yeah, I love Cake Wrecks.

Ironically enough, looking Cake Wrecks today made me think up the whole thing, and caused me to create this topic!

I think proposing by cake would be fantastic, if it was the right kind of cake, etc.

If you want to propose by cake, then do it! The only people who matter in this case are you and your girlfriend (for now).

As long as both of you enjoy both the cake and what it means, then it was a good decision. If it wasn't, you can both look back and laugh.

Win-win!

For a proposal, how about Catan cupcakes? Each hex is a different cupcake. (Not really very fancy for a wedding cake, though.)

I am sure I am not the first person to think of this, and there are probably pictures in the Catan image gallery that I am too lazy to dig up.

I googled Catan cupcakes, and a ton came up.

Actually, that looks pretty popular, there's a lot.

Now the question is, how would I combine proposing into this?

But listen again. Is it really the wind, or is it the sound of somebody running one step ahead of the dark?

Perhaps place a settlement on one of the cupcakes and ask her to settle down with you?

Or you could show her the catan cupcakes and saw you couldn't come up with an idea for edible versions of the resources so you get her (pull ring out) instead?

Or, you could just do something simple and tell her that you are so happy that she shares your passion for gaming and that you would like to share so much more with her. Ask if she will share the rest of her life with you.

Whatever you do, I hope it goes well! Best wishes.
