So... moving all the modules to left column? I still see the Evony right here, as I type. Front Page just looks inconvenience now. What did I do incorrectly?

Front Page loses full frontal Evony. That's all.

Edit: Why can't BGG do it, permanently, for us?

I have side ads turned off and just have the top one on in case an interesting actual boardgame related ad shows up (very rarely). You only see her head in that one.

I so, so, so wish there was a way to filter just boardgame related ads.

And just a reminder, if you support BGG you can turn off all ads. I'm just saying they could use your support and you also get the option to turn them off so no embarrassment at work as a bonus!

Such a pain in the ass - no sooner than I block them, they create a new ad campaign under a new domain.

I finally installed Firefox, then AdBlock Plus. It's a much better trick. Works great and is free! Bye bye Evony.

Waitwaitwait... The Evony Queen is back? As in that ad with a deploring woman about to stain her luscious, milky, white, firm, b... b... bb...

I'd better lay down for a while now. And arrange for some cold water and ice too.

As a long time firefox user, I have long viewed BGG without any ads whatsoever using adblock.

Ok, no offense, we but we bend over backwards to give you this place to exchange information and you pay us back by exchanging tips on adblock? Adblock severely hurts our revenue stream, making it even more difficult for sites like this one to flourish. Am I the only one who sees how rude this is?

Rude or not, I understand your point. I don't use Adblock (nor BGG's version, although I am a paid up patron) - Evony notwithstanding, at least on BGG most of the ads are something I might be interested in!

sometimes I'll even click on an ad in the hopes that BGG gets a few pennies. Now if I could just get BGG revenue for games I purchase from online retailers...

A couple things. Some people have always used Firefox and are obviously going to take advantage of the technology in it. To think otherwise would be naive in my humble opinion. Internet explorer still dominates Firefox in market share so its not like all users of BGG will be using this or even a majority.

About revenue, have you ever had or considered a fund drive? At another website I used to frequent there was a fund drive every so often (at least twice a year) where at the top of the site it would list their stated goal of contributions ( for example 1000 contributions was the goal, note the number wasn't the dollar amount but how many members donated, a donation could range from $5 and on up) and people who donated would get a special star by their user name and the goal number would be updated at the top so it was kind of like a fun contest. It seemed quite successful and maybe this is something Board Game Geek should consider doing.

Derk, I don't think it impacts your revenue stream much at all.

The overlap between "users who click ads" and "users who hate ads and install adblock to avoid them" is extremely tiny.

People who adblock weren't generating ad revenue clicks in the first place.

Yes. Every December. You propably block that too...

To paraphrase another user:

Desktop computer: a lot of money
Mozilla Firefox: Free
Buying Ad Block & Patron-badge on BGG: 25 USD & good Karma
Having to turn off Ad Block to learn what all this thread are about: Priceless.

Well, as far as I know they also get money for impressions and not only for clicks...

Adblock doesn't stop an ad from loading, it only affects the visibility. So if you get paid even without clicks, adblock doesn't change that.

I see, then I will be happy to contribute to their fund drive this year in December.

Please understand, my comment was primarily was the idea of exchanging adblock techniques on a site that draws a significant percentage of revenue from advertising. I didn't mean to be inappropriate at all...
