Do you like to impress your family and friends with your culinary skills, and win cool prizes? If so, then this contest is for you! Pdclose and I, along with Verkisto and MGBM, want you to submit your best culinary creation in one of five categories. Here are the details:

What: You will make a delicious recipe for one of five categories: Main Dish, Side Dish, Dessert, Exotic Ingredient Dish, and Sexed-Up Junk Food. You’ll then take a picture of your dish and post it in the geeklist created for each category. You can make multiple submissions. However, you can only submit a specific dish into one category. So, for example, you can submit five unique main dishes, three unique side dishes, etc. You will also include the recipe, or a detailed description. The recipe does not have to be your own. However, making the dish and photographing it must be your own work.

When: The geeklists for each category will be available starting July 19, and entries will be accepted thru July 26. Again, your culinary creation can only be considered for one category. After that, the judges will get to work, and the winners will be announced in early August.

Prizes: Here are the awards for the five categories, plus three special prizes:

8 GG reward:
Best Main Dish
Best Side Dish
Best Dessert

16 GG reward:
Best Exotic (Juror Emeritus: MGBM)
Best Sexed-Up Junk Food (Juror Emeritus: Verkisto)

16 GG reward and "photography" microbadge:
Best Photography

25 GG reward and "I love to cook" microbadge:
Best in Show

30 GG reward:
Best Entry from an avatar-less boardmember

The winners in the first five individual categories will be considered for Best in Show. All entrants will be considered for Best Photography.

Sound like fun? Well, get cooking!

Yes!

It depends on the category, of course (like photography will be judged on looks, Exotic on the ingredients used), but judges will rate the meals on Creativity, Difficulty, and a few other categories, independently, and then votes will be pooled and tallied and winners awarded.

We need a food on a stick category too, but I'm broke now. I'll upload more RPG goodness tonight, so maybe I'll fund that too.

Enter it in the side dish category. If we get too many preserves and/or bread in there, I'll consider breaking that out into its own category and awarding additional geekgold separately.

And in case it isn't clear, you can enter more than one category, and you can enter the same category multiple times, you just can't enter the same recipe (aka dish) multiple times.

Example: PsyJam makes pickles. He can enter his Mace Thunderpickles in either the "Side Dish" category or the "Exotic Ingredient" category, but he can't enter that single pickle recipe in both categories.

If, instead, PsyJam made both Dill Pickles and Mace Thunderpickles, then he could enter both unique pickle recipes in the "Side Dish" category, or he could choose to enter the Dill Pickles recipe in "Side Dish" and the Mace Thunderpickles recipe in "Exotic Ingredients".

Photography is only one of the awards, and it's given out separately. If you can cook, or spice up yer junk (food), then you'll have just as much chance of winning as the person with the Fabulous Foto(tm).

OK - a snap of my "Thunderspears" are coming online tonight.

Everything else I make is BBQ .. If I remember/have the inclination next time I cue something up, I'll add it to the CC menu.

No, it's the dish that has the limitation, not you. You can't submit the same dish to more than one category. That's to prevent someone from making, say, Truffle Mashed Potatoes and submitting it to both the "Side Dish" and "Exotic Ingredient" categories -- two categories -- for half the effort. In that case they'd have to choose one category to submit that dish, either "Side Dish" or "Exotic Ingredient" but not both.

So Toggy, if you want to make five different types of side dishes, then you could enter the "Side Dish" category five times, once with each different dish. Or if you wanted to make a main dish and a different side dish and a different dessert, then you could submit each one of those to its respective categories.

Note that each dish will be judged on its own merits, so entering a category multiple times with multiple dishes will not necessarily increase your chances of winning! We're not judging on the body of your work but, if you submit four lousy and one great dish, we may actually unconsciously lower the value of your "great" dish -- we're human, after all, and that's the risk you take by not just choosing to enter your best, single dish!
