I have a number of files that I've uploaded here on BGG & I check them on the odd occasion to see what's been thumbed.
Of late, it appears that file thumbs have dried up again, so I thought I'd raise the thumbing of files once more.

The difficulty is that with images, reviews, etc, what you see is what you get & you either like it or don't & thumb it accordingly. With files, they are generally game related & so their real value is often only seen the next time you play the game. This may be days/weeks/months later, by which time, the thumbing of the file is often forgotten.

I'm not really for the indiscriminate thumbing of files, but if a file is good, it should be thumbed.

I think that not thumbing good files lets others down.
When I look at a game's files, I'll look at the most recent & then the hot files. If good files aren't thumbed, they end up disappearing.

So, BGGers - if you think a file is good - if it helped you or added to your gaming experience, please take the time to give it a thumb. Your fellow gamers will be thankful.

Ever a sore point. Files seem to be the poor cousin.

We really, really, REALLY need the page to automatically flip back after a file download. I try to go back and thumb files, but I admit sometimes I hit "close tab" too quickly.

I agree with Tommy as once a file is downloaded, you're done and move on.

In the last month, I've downloaded, printed and thumbed several files. My method is, once I get to the file download page, I right-click the link to the file and choose "Open Link in New Tab/Window". This then lets me review the file and close it, then easily thumb it if I like it as it goes back to the main file download page automatically.

I don't always remember to do it, but it does help.

Perhaps the file download links should do that automatically...open in another window/tab.

Heh...we could do it like those beloved customer feedback forms:

Quote:
Hi! Three days ago, you downloaded file xyz from |GAME_ENTRY| We hope that you have found it useful, and would appreciate some feedback.

O The file was useful! thumbsup
O The file was not useful!
O I haven't looked at it so far (remind me again in one week)

I try to upload an image of the file that appears on the file's download page so people can see what they're going to be seeing. I know that isn't practical for everything, and it can also discourage a certain amount of downloading, but I kind of like having that preview.

This should be in the BGG forum: Suggestions. How about asking Octavian to move it there or starting it again / creating a cross-reference thread?
