Imagine, if you can, a world with no campaigning, no elections. Imagine where every government position is filled by random lottery.

What would this world be like?

Less hypocrisy? Long term measures?

In much the same way that I wouldn't want private-sector jobs awarded at random, I think this would work out poorly.

Competence matters. Do things by lottery and you'll have David and me in charge of writing poetry.

I'll take Manhattan in a garbage bag. With Latin written on it that says "It's hard to give a shit these days"

Government corruption would be a lot different: People would know that they'd not ever be reelected, and just having been in office for a few years wouldn't open many doors later in life, so we'd see representatives working even harder at cashing in.

You'd be better off just going with one dollar-one vote.

If it's anything like a typical Powerball Lottery winner, it would be a disaster.

But then our government would be a haven for the maladjusted.

Well we'd have to only select randomly from the wealthiest members of society.

Which really isn't all that much of a change
