I'm quite jazzed on the idea of a M.U.L.E.-like (new genre?) that doesn't cost as much as Planet Steam. Details?

I can only give you a few details at this time since the game is in the early stages of playtesting.

1) The game uses a simple dynamic market mechanism to create tension due to supply and demand.

2) Unlike some of the other M.U.L.E.-inspired games out there, this one will contain all of the different types of terrain found in the original game. The terrain will affect the resource production accordingly.

3) There will be no random elements in the base game, but we may add event cards as an optional method of play (or perhaps an expansion).

Early playtests have been great so far.

Perhaps in an expansion or optional variant. Our goal is to make a great game based on M.U.L.E. -- not necessarily a M.U.L.E. clone.

We can make it a dexterity-based minigame, maybe something involving a catapult.

ooh I like that. You could even use the catapult to place your mules on your territory, if it misses you lose the mule!

Why no luck?

M.U.L.E.s land grab and random events added a lot of character to the game.

The game is inspired by M.U.L.E., but not meant to be a clone.

First and foremost, we wanted to create a great game. There are some aspects of M.U.L.E. that simply work a lot better as a video game than they ever could as a boardgame.

That being said, we do have a land grab, and you may not always get the plot you want (because of player choices, not because of luck though).

And while we've chose not to add random events to the base game, we may offer them as a free expansion.
