Hi everyone!

Just Something I Made is a cool blog with a lot of neat crafty ideas. I came across this great tutorial on there for transferring images to wooden poker chips or other wooden chits.

This look is an interesting change of pace from using stickers on chips.

It's very easy to do, you need photocopies with dry toner ink and a blender pen, she gives the links to find these. I think it's really cool!

Anyway, check it for yourself, here's the link to the tutorial:

http://justsomethingimade.blogspot.com/2009/07/custom-wooden...

psst: I got permission from the blogger before posting this here!

--------edit-------

here is a link to another thread with a different technique for transferring images to wood:

What about those print-them-yourselves t-shirt transfer sheets you can get in office supply stores? Has anyone tried those?

Thanks Jess!! I wanted to emphasize that it works on PLASTIC as well as wood. The blogger did the project on plastic poker chips, as well as wooden discs.

So, we can customize plastic poker chips!! Woo-Hoo!!

Great find Jess!!

I've seen a different technique for packing tape transfers that might also have some useful applications in boardgames.

Below is an untested, uncertified, possibly explosive, corrosive and poisonous recipe for "blender fluid". It may also ruin your self-esteem, luck, financial prospects and sex-life. Don't ingest or splash yourself or breathe the vapours.

No care and no responsibility taken.

Its possible that a "pen' is the only effective application device for this stuff.

From http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23...

1 oz. glycerin, 2 oz. distilled water, 3/4 teaspoon rubbing alcohol

This is a perfect way to make coins for Scallywags! I wish I had known this long ago, I bought rubber stamps to do the same thing.

Thanks!

According to the article, yes.

You need your image printed with a laser printer or photo copier.

I asked on her blog as well, and supposedly the first batch she tried didn't turn out as well...she's going to try another printer and see if it makes any difference...

Thanks for posting this! This is by far one of the coolest things I've seen. I'll have to give it a try next time I'm putting a game together or adding flair to one.

I also passed the link to a girl I work with because she does craft stuff. She loved it.

Thanks to this thread I used this transfer method for one of my prototypes. I used the Chartpak Blender marker ($3.50 at local art supply store) and photocopies. I was transferring text onto wooden boards, and it worked perfectly!

The marker eventually ran dry because I had a lot to make. I intend to try the refill recipe posted above (water, alcohol, glycerin) and see how that works. By the way, the ingredients are not dangerous or explosive. Glycerin is only dangerous as nitroglycerin, which I doubt you'd be able to buy at Walmart. Glycerin is used in soap and also cake design to thicken frosting.

I couldn't remember the brand name to avoid when I was at Michaels. Damn. What other uses do blender pens have?

You could wash out the contents, perhaps with pure ribbing alcohol, dry it, refill it with the recipe for blender fluid given above and then tell us if it works.

You could use them for their original purpose: blending colored markers to create smooth gradients.

But I have to agree with Pinook. Try the recipe!
