I've seen that same warning on a jar of peanut butter! It cracked me up. But I guess they're just covering their bases.

Edit: Best of all is the use of the word "may." H'mmm, so they also may not contain peanuts?

It's fun, it's healthy, it's good exercise. The kids will just love it. And we put a little sand inside to make the experience more pleasant.

Ever have 'peanut-free' peanut butter?

Not bad, just butter.

Much better than butter's evil cousin margarine.

I've seen meat products labeled with "May contain Beef and/or Pork and/or Chicken and/or Mutton and/or mechanically separated meat byproducts." ... that's covering their bases pretty well.

Sadly not simply restricted to nuts, I bought some smoked mackeral fillets recently which had an allergy warning - contains fish.

Even better are the warnings on a few products in Germany. On a peanut snack it says "May contain traces of nuts". Traces?

Traces are enough for me to go to the hospital. I need that warning.

A similar amusing result of aggressive food labeling lets you find things like "Ingredients: Carrots" on bags of baby carrots.

Once I bought a jar of tahini. On the back, it said:

Quote:
Ingredients (listed in descending order of predominance): sesame seeds

shake

WHAT base exactly are they covering?

A notice saying 'Peanuts' would do that - the rest is just a sign of severe mental retardation and there's no excuse for it at all.

You'd think so, but the lawyers out here have somehow apparently convinced the courts that a reasonable person would not make that assumption.

You need this warning on a snack clearly made from nuts and "nuts" in it's name?

You know, that is a sad state - that all of us can pretty easily imagine, without that notice, someone getting sick and taking them to court and then winning because they didn't have the warning on there...

Personally, I'd like to see us go back a bit toward natural selection - if you do something to yourself because you were stupid, well....

(Of course, I'd probably manage to kill myself the first day after the rules changed in some spectacularly stupid manner, but ya know, I'm hoping it's for the greater good... )

Actually, it's not bad. It's made from tapioca. If you can't have nuts, this is a great substitute.

Of course, I can, so I each chunky natural PB.

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

Several years ago I spent a few weeks in California (Long Beach area) finalizing some software for a flight simulator, and I remember seeing a sign next to the beach (Venice?) warning people that the beach sand contained large amounts of "silicon dioxide", which is a known lung irritant and possible cancer-causing agent.

Thank goodness the sign was there, or I would have gone down to lie on the sand and attempt to inhale some of it. Saved from performing an idiodic act by a proper warning sign!

Ah. No. But I know some people who would. We have so many artificial flavors here, that some people may think it's okay, and have it anyway. shake

Nuts != peanuts and that is a reason for it. Because one can be alergic to nuts but not peanuts.

As for warning, may contain meat is just flabergasting.
