Instead of doing the obvious and lowering the required number of districts to end the game, why not take the witch and diplomat. They both speed up the game.

However, without a warlord or assassin, the architect becomes even more powerful. To counter cheap district rushes and easy wins, I'd limit the architect to building two districts instead of three.

With large numbers of players, I find the biggest drag is time it takes to select a role. In response, I've considered splitting the character deck in two and passing it in opposing directions so two people are always choosing at a time.
