That's a powerful card, but there's much more to game than it.

I agree that "same player + no randomness" (thus I suppose you've played with all cards already in hand during setup) can degenerate into very similar matches, but at least the loser (if not both players for the sake of exploring the game) should be encouraged to modify his strategy and try new approaches the next time(s).

The Master Cards can spice things up and change the game each time (at least, you have 8 possible variations, with the ninth being "no Master Card").

I like it more with 3 or 4 players (with 2 it is fine, but not as good as it becomes with more than one opponent).

Well, then go for the block. In favor of better judgement, I always construct my castles so that opponents won't be able to use that card to appear on the 4th+ level. It takes more action points, but it's kind of a wash once he's on the 5th level and you're only one level higher than he is on the 4th level. That's only 5pts less than you vs 25pts less.

BTW, you should also try the other variant where all action cards get drawn from a single, global deck rather than each player having their own draw pile
