Would an unlimited starter deck and a complete set of Dragons commons and uncommons be enough to try out this game (for 2 players)? Thanks.

Just 1 starter isn't going to cut. Not nearly enough sites or characters to go around. 1 starter each + those TD cards is in the realm of possibility of creating 2 fairly balanced decks (but bad if you get the same fixed pack from starters, meaning you have the same characters).

And, IIRC, there weren't a ton of characters in the dragon set.

You'd be better served getting another Unlimited Starter or two and some commons/uncommons from that set.

I don't think they have them listed on their website, but The Compleat Strategist in New York has sealed display boxes of Unlimited Starters & The Dragons for $25 a pop. I bought up some to explore the game with.

They don't have any displays of really rare MeCCG, though.

If you're looking to get cards to create a bigger game space, I think this would be a good way to go.
