If you're at, say a library, or some other place where a cup of pens WRITING UTENSILS is available for people to use, and you take one, use it for a moment, and then realize that it's dry, DO NOT put it back in the cup. Just throw it away! Save the next person from going through that same trouble, hey?

Isn't that pen discrimination? You're basically saying if they don't perform for you, you just throw them away like trash?

My daughters always leave the caps off their markers. When I try to throw the dry markers out, they say "No daddy! We like them this way!" And then they start coloring with dried out markers, leaving only the faintest uneven trails of color across the paper.

I do this and have gotten dirty looks and lectures for it.

I still do this.

This reminds me of when me and my wife were dating. One day we were sitting on the front row at church writing messages back and forth. I had one of those four color pens and she wrote:

Your pen is bigger than mine.

Ofcourse she spelled the letters so close together it spelled penis. I broke out laughing and she turned bright red. There were quite a few questions over what was so funny.

Watch it cut through this tin can! And still sharp enough to slice a kielbasa into fifths! Order now, and we'll throw in this Inside-the-Eggshell Egg Scrambler(TM)!

My favorite joke about territory marking concerns two fellows who decide to order pork chops Family Style at a restaurant. The waiter places a dish containing two nice pieces of meat between them, but one chop is clearly larger than the other. One guy licks his hand, slaps it down on the bigger chop, and says, "It's mine!". The other guy looks at him, then also licks his hand, slaps it down on the same chop, and says, "Take it!".

I'm not normally OCD about things, but from the percentage of people that don't wash their hands here at work (and we are talking professional engineer / programmer types), I can extrapolate the amount of junk living on the hands of the general public. One should loathe touching public pens at all....

Dry pens in a library? Annoying.

But dry pens in a working environment where it is very important that you can jot down any fleeting thought before it is lost forever? Now that is mean!

Believe me: Relieving a co-worker during high workload and, as soon as he leaves, discovering that all the pens at the workplace are dry -> not funny.
Especially in Air Traffic Control.

No joke:

Once I was in the pub with some guys. Two buddies started quarreling about a beer. "That's my beer" "Nope, that's mine!" Then, one spits in it. "So, now it's my beer for sure!" The other one immediately spits in the glass too "There, you can have it" So the first one declines.

And yes, the other one drank it. "Hey, come on, it's beer. Can't leave it standing there"
yuk
