I love Malt-O-Meal. I moved to NYC my life upgraded in almost every way except for a few key things that I sorely missed:

1. Tim's Cascade Chips (Sour Cream & Onion)
2. Chili Cheese Fritos
3. Prepackaged hydrated Yaki Soba noodles with sauce.
and
4. Malt-O-Meal hot cereal.

Last year, I was in California shopping at Target and saw that they had Malt-O-Meal. I suddenly had the bright idea to think that Target would stock the same stuff in each store. I'd never shopped for food at Target here in Brooklyn, but when I got back I was elated to find that they had it.

In the last 6 months they've stopped carrying it. I asked my local store to order it (I figured they could because they stock their cold cereal), but they don't even have it in their catalog . My wife in her infinite wisdom said to check the interweb to see if anyone else in NYC sells it.

The Malt-O-Meal website has a Malt-O-Meal finder:
http://www.econsumeraffairs.com/mom/ProductLocator.htm

According to them no stores have it in NYC, except Target.

You lie, Malt-O-Meal, you lie!

You are a dirty, filthy, teasing liar, Malt-O-Meal!

How will I ever get that delicious goodness without having people bring it back from trips to the west coast?

In elementary school, there was this guy named Walt. We called him Walt-O-Weal.

That's all I got.

It gets worse. According to my American MIL, the stuff they sell in Canada is not the same as the stuff they sell in the US. It's a different formulation. When we visit, we must bring her suitcases full of the stuff.

One of their main production plants lies just south of us, in Northfield, MN. The entire town smells like breakfast cereal!

At least that's a bit better than when I lived near Gilroy, CA, where they grow garlic. Mark Twain is rumored to have said, of the town, that you could marinate a steak by hanging it out on a clothesline.

I prefer:

with milk and brown sugar. Oatmeal is really good too, but with both cereals, NEVER use the instant or quick versions.

Let me know which one and I'll check.

Whoa, they don't sell Malt-O-Meal everywhere? Weird! Every grocery/department store I know of carries it. I love the stuff!

Let me know if you want any shipped to you.

FYI, I used the search feature and Publix and Target come up for me. But also:

Dollar General
Walgreens - pharmacy chain
CVS - pharmacy chain

You might want to check these out if you have them in NYC. If you don't have Dollar General, maybe another dollar store chain? You have Rite Aid there right? Check them also.

Good luck and I'll gm you with my findings!! ninja

Fear not Malt-O-Meal fan...

I've come to share with you a new way to get your hands (and your tummy) around the "delicious goodness" that you've been scouring the city for. I'm sorry the stores in your area aren't stocking Malt-O-Meal hot cereal. Trust me when I tell you Malt-O-Meal is working hard to get all requested products into the hands of those who love it. There would be nothing greater than to make Malt-O-Meal available in your local grocery store. -and thanks for confirming that there is a demand in your area.

For now, the best I can do is offer this link to the possibility of having Malt-O-Meal delivered right to your front door. It's not exactly instant gratification, but it's a start!

http://mybrands.com/BrandsHome.aspx?bid=322&B=true

Feel free to contact me on the Malt-O-Meal Facebook Fan Page.
You'll also find special offers there, and other news that might make the wait for Malt-O-Meal to come to your city even more worth it: http://tinyurl.com/MOMFBFAN

Enjoy!

It's the internet! You can get a box with Malt-o-Meal, fireflies, and silk undies delivered to your door, no questions asked.

(I'll take a complimentary Spectral Rails, too. Or I'll pay MSRP for a signed copy. Whichever.)

Although the Malt-O-Meal team seems to have you covered, you might want to check out froogle.com next time--you can buy a 12-pack of the stuff for 43.39 from the Meijer's grocery website. Obviously there's going to be some overhead there, but hey--you chose to move to the boondocks.

Incidentally, I may have found your dream job, MD:

I go to Emporia, KS once a month for graduate school. When I was in high school, Emporia had a beef-packing plant, and the entire town smelled of rendered beef -- it was tortuously awful; now the beef-packing plant is gone and all you can smell is the Dolly Madison bakery, which is fantastic.
