Hi all,

the question is simple: Is this game playable with (only) 2 players? And if, is it fun?

Do what you can, with what you've got, where you are.

Probably not.

If you want an 18xx game for two look at 1860: Railways on the Isle of Wight.

Look but not touch, it's very much a hen's teeth item. I wonder when JKLM are going to have an update on the reprint.

It's playable with 2. I played it as an introduction game with my wife a while ago and it worked quite nicely. But it's of course better with more. I can imagine many worse 18xx games if you only play with 2 (more or less anything based on 1830).

[edit] crucial spelling error fixed blush [/edit]

Oh? 1825 (from the 1829 line) units 2 and 3 are supposed to play pretty well with two, no?

Yes. Unit 3 is a two player only game. All 1825 games works very well with only two players (as opposed to the 1830 series)

Ah, then I misunderstood what you meant by

to be anything based non-1830 would be worse for 2 players.

Yep, there is a spelling error there, it should be "based ON 1830" which does change the meaning of that sentence a little bit... blush

No worries, glad we cleared that up. How about 1853?

1830 works really wonderful with 2 players. If both know the game well enough, this is as cutthroat as it can get.

1832 is a good two player game.

I did not find the three or four 2-player games of 1832 I've played to be good games, but instead to suffer the standard zero sum problems of all 2-player 1830-style 18xx, just further accentuated by price protection.
