Looking at Matt Egan's original post (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/3618237#3618237 , I decided to try out the Solo Series Game and see if I could tweak the cards to achieve an even higher score.

I'd like to say my strategy isn't entirely original, but just added a few tweaks here and there to bump up the score. Here goes:-

Start the game with 40 food and the following 7 occs played and 14 minors.

Occupations: Tutor, Seasonal Worker, Merchant, Church Warden, Animal Tamer, Wet nurse, Chief
Improvements I: Clay Pit, Tavern, Clay Deposit, Ladder, Clay Supports, Quarry, Broom
Improvements II: Pelts, Forest Pasture, Village Well, Bakehouse, Mansion, Milking stool, Wooden Strong-Box

Two cards I'd like to highlight (which I think have not been mentioned in other posts) are the merchant and the milking stool. The merchant allows you to play 2 majors or minors for the cost of 1food (food isn't a biggie in the solo series ), as opposed to the travelling salesman which only lets you play 1 major or 2 minors. The milking stool is one of the cheaper costing 3-point minors available. having 6 cattle isn't that hard in a solo game, nuff said.

The round sequences are as follows:-

Round 1 (Major/Minor): (Start game with 4w from Church Warden and 40 food from game 7)
1. SP Minors: Clay Pit, Quarry (-1f to merchant)
2. Day Labourer (+2f,+g,+3c,+3s)

I thought there wasn't enough reed to do that with out the straw roof but with the home improvements you took it works. Good job!

I think you missed a point from the tutor wouldn't he score 6?

Having 14 Minors available sure doesn't hurt.

Chen, this could be nitpicking, but I'm not sure you're allowed to have the 4Wood from the Church Warden, since technically you're starting the game with those Occupations already played, therefore the Warden has no actual opportunity to collect the wood. Your call, of course, and I could well be wrong (oh, yeah, right! Like that's ever happened before!), but it just seems intuitively obvious to me somehow.

You're allowed to receive the bonus, just like you're allowed to place any materials on the board (like from Plowman).

I can't recall the page specifically, but I remember in the rules about a mythical Round 0 for the solo games (for cases just like this). Maybe it was a Hanno ruling.

I'm not good with HTML so I don't know how to quick quote everyone, but here goes....

Gary, the ladder + clay supports combos removes any reed requirements for room building/renovation. As for the tutor, you are right, it IS 6 points making it 213. I guess I was thinking of playing lord of the manor as an alternate hence only giving 5 points. This was due to some ambiguity of the tutor scoring any points once occupations are "pre-played" in session 8 of the solo series.

Gordon, the secret? Having too much free time and having that much passion for THE greatest board game EVAR.

Geoff and Bryann, I do not know the actual ruling and hope bryann's right , lest I would have to spend a few more hours reconfiguring this build

To renovate two wood rooms to clay (2 clay) and build the two improvements (5 clay), wouldn't you need 7 clay, not 5?
Leaving you with 5 clay, which is not enough for 4 rooms...
