I played this game back in the 70s (in Sweden, dunno the origin of it).

You play on a board about the size of a chess board, might have been 7x7, 8x8 or 9x9, I don't remember exactly. Each square has a sharp border so the dice turn over when you move them. You could not move diagonally of course.

You have a King that can be moved 1 square, and the object was either to check mate or capture your opponent's King. All other pieces are 6-sided dice, which could be moved a number of squares equal to the number on top of it. The pieces could turn 90 degrees once per move, and there was a chart that showed what number would come on top after the move (for example: if you had a 5 with a 3 facing towards you, and you move 3 forward and 2 left, you would know what number would be on top and facing you respectively).

Does anyone know this game? I haven't seen it since the 70s, but would love to play it again.

It does sound a bit similar to Dicefest, but that would be too new.

What you're looking for is "DUELL" (Parker Brothers, 1975).

See here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2409

You should be able to get it for a couple of Euros on ebay.

Cheers,

Christian
