Personally I'd avoid it. I wouldn't play with less than 5. I prefer 7 or 8.

If you go to the game page poll, you'll notice >50% say not recommended with 3.

Sweet spot is 6-8

If your opponents would be kids, then by all means get it for 3 players. I played a ton of this two player against my daughter when she was young.

But for adults, this needs at least 4 to be fun, and is best with 6 or so.

For variety, use the "Diamant for Two" variation with 3 players. You each grab 2 meeples, and you play six-player in three teams of two.

Why not give it a whirl.?
