Hi, I will be moving to Montreal in a few days and realised I had not yet found a gaming group in Montreal. So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

Bonjour, je déménage a Montréal dans quelques jours et j'ai réalisé que je n'avais toujours pas de groupe de jeu a Montréal. J'espérais que quelqun aurait des suggestions ou bien une idée d'où chercher.

Hey there,

Welcome to Montreal. There's more gaming here than you'll likely have time for. Here are a few places to get started.

Montreal Boardgames Meetup Group
http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/Montreal_Boardgames_Meetup_...

These guys meet at downtown at Concordia University. They play mostly euros, with some wargames and ameritrash thrown in for good measure. They meet on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of every month. My favourite place to play.

Aux Jeux: A great little store on St-Jean Blvd in the West Island has board game nights every Wednesday and every 2nd Sunday. Good prices & selection too.

www.dragonsnocturnes.org
A forum site in French about games. The calendar page lists some weekly game nights.

Valet De Coeur:
http://www.levalet.com/
A game store on St-Dennis with a huge selection of games, and a few tables. I think they may have game nights starting in the fall.

I'd suggest trying any (or all) of these. Once you start meeting gamers here, you'll be able to game as much as you want.

Have fun!

There are actually quite a few here in Montreal, both French and English:

Concordia (gaming every first and third Saturday of the month) - http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/Montreal_Boardgames_Meetup_...

Recreation (gaming every Wednesday) - http://sjeux.blogspot.com/

Au Jeux (gaming every Wednesday, also has Magic on the weekend and a great store to get your games) - http://auxjeux.ca/site.html

There are others but I do not know the details, I have been to the ones above and they are all great.

Hi, I am mostly a fan of strategy games (with lots of pieces and lasting forever and a half). Which of those groups should I try, their sites are kind of vague as to the games actually being played there.

I play at Aux Jeux every week. The group that I sit down with likes to play heavier strategy games, but sometimes we just don't have enough time for the really long ones. But come enough and we would probably set up some longer ones for the Sunday sessions.

Generally for the meetings during the week (Au Jeux, Recreation, Valet, etc) there is not enough time to play the longer games (such as Civ or Diplomacy), but many of the players do play these games and it should be fairly easy to find a group to meet on a weekend to play the longer games.

On Wednesday, you can also come at ETS. (http://cf.groups.yahoo.com/group/jeuxdeplateauxETS/)

We play from 18h15 to 21h30, everyone is welcome. Check the site for the room, as it may change in september. For August, we are meeting in the cafeteria.

We are much less people than at La Récréation (8-10 vs 30+), but it is less noisy.

What kind of heavy strategy games does your group play?

Depends on which groups. The Concordia meetup will play most of them, but longer games are scheduled separately. The groups that meet during weekdays play shorter games due to time.

I wish I could, been looking forward to Le Havre, but I'm busy this week-end (and the other one).
How about in 3 weeks?

Good luck!

P.S. You should try to bring your game to a local game group, I'm pretty sure you'll find players.
