In all crayon rail games, an important part of winning is building your track efficiently. Knowing which cities generate the best returns, and which to rarely bother connecting, can help you build an efficient network. The loads supplied and demanded by a city largely determine that city's value to your network.

Using data from over 54,000 computer-simulated 4-player matches, the table below shows the percentage of times a Martian Rails city was served by the winning player's track. The major cities generally have the highest percentage because the rules specify a minimum number of such cities must be served to win. This map contains the rare situation of a major city (Hellasport) being less popular than a medium-sized city (Helium). The likely explanation for Helium's popularity is that it is the only source of Red Martians, and is one of only two sources of both Machinery and Thoats.

Small cities can be served by the fewest number of players, so those cities can be important to connect early. The top two small cities are U-Gor and the more remote Isher. U-Gor's proximity to Helium suggests a useful early route for your track. These stats were generated via simulation by the EB Pronto computer program that can be downloaded from

U-Gor's proximity to Helium suggests a useful early route for your track.

Was the optional green/red martian enmity rule on for these simulations? Personally I think that is the rule that should pretty much always be played for the additional flavour of Martian Rails, and it has a significant impact on the track building since you cannot build track that connects these two cities

Anything that starts with a 'U' or has the word 'port' in it.
How incredibly simple that turned out to be

Btw, I like RED MARTIANS! devil
