Hi Guys,

Considering buying this- are there different versions? If so, which one should I gather?

There is also the new Formula D version. Better and probably easier to get a hold of.

Also includes rules for Street races. And the basic rules are similar to what Formula Dè MIni was.

You probably see the difference. Also the box art is totally different.

From my point of view the artwork of the Formula De Version is better. You can play the new courses with the old version and vice versa.
The improvement of the new version is the gearbox.

I agree that the older version looks better. I've also *read* that the plastic gear boxes are a bit thin and may have durability issues.

Admittedly, I was disappointed at first that I got the older version since I'm usually about getting latest and greatest. The cartoony artwork on the new version threw me and I didn't take the time to see if they were the same game.

All in all, it doesn't really matter. The older game was never broken and the mechanics are not changed much from the new, just a few new features. If you can score a cheap copy of the old game you'll save money and still have a lot of fun.

Ooh a little higher, now a bit to the left, a little more, a little more, just a bit more. Oooh yes, that's the spot!

Not necessarily true. I picked mine up new in a shop just last year (still in shrink wrap) for 200 NOK (~£20).

Having just received a Ludoliere version of the game via ebay (Thank you Mike!) I believe that there are two Ludoliere versions. The copy I have has the different dice in it that we all know and love kiss but IIRC there was an "original" original which only had a D20 in it and a lookup table for the rolls in different gears.

I know, I know, this thread is useless without photos! perhaps at the weekend..

Diff.

You are correct. The first version had just 1 D20 and lookup tables on the gear sheet.

See my photo of it here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/431329
