We roll three dice for variable APs, counting only the high and low dice. This tightens up the distribution but still allows for a fair amount of unpredictability. You can still get the occasional three or eleven, just not nearly as often.

For added fun, we make the roll secret, rolling under an opaque cup and revealing the roll only when the unit is declared 'spent'. This really cranks up the tension, as you sweat each AP expenditure, not knowing if that T34 will have enough remaining for a pointblank flank shot. At DonCon, Uwe liked both ideas and might make them official optionals. Try them and see what you think!

Good idea! I'll try this!

Now, on my side, I use a home-made D12 with the following distribution:
- no chance to make a "2" or "3", nor a "11" or "12",
- "4", "5", "9" and "10" values have only 1 side,
- "6" and "8" values have 2 sides,
- and "7" has the 4 sides left.

This leaves enough room for randomness and fog of war, but making it less sensible to luck and frustration! cry

And, in any case, I love the idea of making the roll secret!
