I'm getting ready to paint my marines but I can't figure out what the marine has in his hand. He is a standard terminator with a stormbolter in one hand and his other hand is turned up with someting in it. His scanner is in his helmet so I figure it's not a scanner. Any ideas?

I think that's what the scanner does and why is he the only one that has it?

Iirc from my days of playing 40k, it's called a signum, and yes, it's used to track enemy movements.

While Space Marine armor is pretty sophisticated, I don't believe they have one in their helmets, otherwise there'd be no point in using the hand-held ones.

The way that I understand it is that the terminator armour is very very old and not easy to manufacture anymore. Often suits are damaged and repaired - this one happens to have a hand scanner due to some mishap. It could also just be an older design suit - the marines attatch spirits to their suits so would be reluctant to change them later on.

Just checked - it is called an auspex. It gives all kind of data and stuff. (Omnio is logical/analytical guy.)

I guess he got the "cheap" suit. Does anybody else think the pictures of the Space Marines in the mission booklet resemble Borgs?

According to the background data some suits have such technology they can see what their brother is seeing. I assume that's cause thay have something in their helmet and seeing the marines without their helmet a lot of them have things directly over their eye or eye's.

The helmet has a targeting computer/system, not a scanner system. Omnio's device is even more sophisticated than the other marines (though has no bearing on the game).

It's a scanner, that, like, slides out all cool with a swooshy noise, and then slides back all swooshy when you are done. But that's not the cool part; the cool part is that the armour *knows* when you are done, you don't even have to say anything silly like "All done, computer" in a Patrick Stewart voice or anything.

It's dope. You should totally get one.

surely if it were an iPod he would be playing the new space hulk game for it?

imho - definitely porno. its lonely in deep space.

painting advice - the GW site has a 360 degree viewer of all the marines, that should sort you out.
