RT just has 10 Railroad Baron cards. It looks like this new edition includes 12 (which is great since it allows 6 players to each choose one of two as in Rails of Europe).

Anyone know what the new cards/goals are?

Hi Henry,

There are a few barons that are new and some that have had their goals changed. No two barons have the EXACT same goal now!

5 cards from the first edition remain the same, and were fine goals.
(connect NY to Chi, most money, fewest shares, build a western link, 2 points for each link to Chi)

New or Modified goals:
2 points for each link from mobile, 8 points for longest (most consecutive) railroad, 6 points for most track tiles, 6 points for player connected to the most cities, 6 points for the most total links, 6 points if you are the first to upgrade to level 6 engine, and 6 points if you have the most upgraded engine (not tied) at endgame

Another cool change/feature is the major line cards. You can remove them from the deck and play with like Railways of Europe with the first person to complete the line claims it, or you can shuffle the major lines in the deck and play the classic way!

Share Certificates have been replaced with bond certificates, because this mechanic always felt like a bond, and we now have a share system in Railways of England and Wales that is backwards compatible.

The map is a 1 piece board now (instead of 3) and actually fits on your game table! (the score track was removed, and is on its own board now)

I hope this answers your questions and fills you in on some new details too!

Absolutely.

In particular, I like just having one each of 'most money' and 'fewest shares' goals. It seems like there used to be a dupe of one or both of those which made for a lot of goal redundancy since people going for either tend to compete for fewest shares (since few shares is one way to get to lots of money).

I also like that the Major Lines are included as cards so that you can play the classic way or with them all out.

Thanks for the update!

question about the board - the railroad tycoon map had 3 seperate boards that were joined together; is the new map the same size as the old one minus the scoring track? Are the hex sizes the same between the two games?

Hi Joe,

The map is a 1 piece 6 fold board (so no more bumping and screwing up the boards!!)

The scale is exactly the same (hexes and all) as the old board, we just took off the score track and put it on its own board.
