Dear everyone that reads the newspaper in any language but Dutch and English (but especially German),

We are looking for enthusiasts (with any translation experience) that would like to translate Day & Night (from Dutch or English ;)) and are ok with receiving only a lot of gratitude and a copy of Day & Night at Essen.

Unfortunately I don't have too much time recently. But this is a nice thing. I regularly translate rules from English and German into Hungarian. Until now only one publisher/designer thought that he must remunerate my work with a free copy... Cyril Demaegd was the one from Ystari.
The publishers could follow the example above.

Ah really?

I'd feel very bad to not reward someone for so much work... I'd wish I had a very successful company already, so I could reward more =). In any way I think if you reward someone for their work, it will feel better for them, and the quality of their work rises. So next to the moral reason, it should do the business good!

Anyway, thanks to everyone for their replies! I will send you the template for the translation as soon as possible! For now, you could read the rules over at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/46332.

GeekGold is always a good motivator around here

Nevertheless: Having the raw text would make the translating process a bit easier

Deadline
The deadline for the translation is basically 'before Spiel'. We want to print those translations and bring them with us. It would be great to have them before the 7th of October so we can post them for others to review.

A free game
We can only give one game to the main translator per language, and only at events we're at because we have no budget anymore for sending games. Let me know if you're going to collect your game at Spiel so I will set a game aside.

Thanks so much to every one of you and hope to meet and thank you in person next month. If you have any questions, email me (http://dn-boardgame.com/contact) and I will reply immediately.

You started translating already, without a translation document?? Wow, you're really enthusiastic, great! =)

If you send your translation so far to "E Decker" I'm sure he can use it.

Just one question,

should we translate all game text like "Book of Spells", "Cristallize" or not? I'm guessing if these words are used on the cards, it might be better to keep them intact... Or perhaps to translate and keep the word in brackets behind...

So? What say you?

Very good point... I've updated the translation file and showed which words we translated. Also, I forgot to put the translation parts in the reference. Thanks for pointing out.

A small suggestion: next time put the text to translate into a two columns table. Ideally, use the left column for the original text (one paragraph in each cell) and leave the right column empty. This greatly simplify both the translation and the following revision.

Some questions:

A) Should I translate Mystify and Crystallize on page 3 (Contents)? I see that they have to be left unmodified in the rest of the rulebook, so I wonder if they have to be left unmodified also on this page.

B) Should I translate the term 'location-tile' on page 6 and following?

C) I noticed that you did not add the credits to the translator. I would appreciate to be credited for the work on the rulebook. Where should I add the sentence "translated by ...."?

Thanks,

Mauro

A: Yes, because there will be a translation in the reference.
B: Yes.
C: I was thinking to put this on the front, but it could be in the credits too, all the names together maybe. I've updated the file because I need the sentence "Translated by".

Thanks again! =)

Nothing formal. I once translated a postgraduate student's grant application from English to Swedish, but since I have no idea wheter she got the grant or not I can't really take credit for that, can I?
