The Brotherhood of Balance

12 players – Three teams – Adjusted parity scale


The Teams

Team Evil

2 Werewolves

The two wolves share a wolfie chat where they can commingle, plot and even groom themselves in private.



Team Good


4 Town Folk (villagers)
1 Geraldo the Investigative Reporter (mason seer)
1 Old Alfredo (wolf seer)

Old Alfredo is the wealthy and reclusive owner of the pasta sauce cannery that keeps this town on the map. Though he won’t answer any questions on the subject, rumor has it, many years ago, he actually killed a werewolf. Now, his strength failing, he is limited to using ancient lore to identify the beasts.

Geraldo, the Investigative Reporter, has a long-standing conspiracy theory that he has been trying to prove for years: that a secret society controls much of what goes on in town. Recently, he has discovered an informant who has told the reporter the exact time of the upcoming mason gathering. The reporter gets a N0 negative view by accounting for one player not at the meeting. Before the dawn of D2 the informant will give the Investigative Reporter the name of one random mason (random positive N1 view) before fleeing town. The morning newspaper will print evidence of the secret society (but not the name revealed) causing the masons to close their secret meetings (chat) and lay low. (see Special Conditions below.)


Team Neutral

3 masons
1 33rd degree mason

Masons begin the game sharing a chat and know each other’s identity but are sworn by a solemn oath of allegiance to never betray their brotherhood. Masons will NOT have a chat D2/N2 and potentially beyond (see Special Conditions below.)

Using his extensive knowledge of Druidic lore, the 33rd Degree Mason has the ability to send one up-to-10-character-long message to the other masons per day when mason chat is closed.

The masons may develop codes and secret signals in their N0/D1 chat but such signals and codes must be used in a way in which they are posted in plain text within the thread. No small font, white font nor any manner of hidden text is allowed. As the case for all other players in the game, no private messages or outside communication is permitted between masons.



Victory Conditions


Team Evil
Achieve an adjusted parity from the following values:

a) All team good equals -1 parity point against the wolves (as usual,) and,

b) Masons count against wolf parity as follows:
4 living masons count as -2 against the wolves
3 living masons count as -1 against the wolves
2 living masons count as 0 neutral to the wolves
1 living mason counts as +1 in favor of the wolves
0 living masons count as +2 in favor of the wolves

(e.g.
1 wolf, 0 masons, 3 good team = wolf parity
2 wolves, 1 mason, 3 good team = wolf parity)



Team Good
Eliminate all Wolves


Team Neutral
a) At any time reach numerical superiority over Team Good with one wolf eliminated (e.g., 3 masons, 1 wolf and 2 Good players = solo neutral victory), or,

b) Reach numerical parity +1 with Good team upon elimination of both wolves. (e.g., all wolves dead, 2 masons, 3 good team = neutral parity and co-victory with good.)



Special Conditions

As previously mentioned, the masons start off with an N0/D1 chat. At dawn of D2 the Investigative Reporter receives an informant's tip (random N1 POSITIVE view) on one of the masons causing the secret society to go underground and locking the mason chat.

The mason chat will remain closed until the Investigative Reporter is killed, in which case, it will reopen the following dawn. If the Investigative reporter is killed D1/N1 the Mason chat will still close as a precaution but only for D2 and will open again dawn of D3.

(e.g., reporter killed D3-chat reopens dawn D4, reporter killed N3-chat reopens dawn D4)

The Story....


The village of Santa Vera had been serenely peaceful for many years. Only the old men could remember a time when this was not so. In recent memory, the sound of children playing and local artisans busy at their craft filled the cobblestone streets.

That is until great trouble, once again, came to Santa Vera…

“Help! Help! Help me!” the little boy cried as he ran at breakneck speed into town. “Old Spudino! It’s Old Spudino!” he panted with wild terror in his eyes, “Santa Maria! He is torn apart on the path in the woods!”

The village leaders gathered around the grizzly scene in silent disbelief. Old Antonio was the first to examine the corpse, pushing the others back.

“This is the work of werewolves,” Antonio said after measuring the bite marks with the span of his hand.

All the old men agreed solemnly in turn. What they had hoped they would not live to see again in their lifetimes was, once again, visited upon them.

Later that night across town… The Santa Vera Brotherhood of Balance meets in its secret location. Their leader, the 33rd Degree Mason, addresses his brotherhood.

“Brothers, it is our ancient sacred oath to maintain the balance of Good and Evil. This foolish showing of Evil’s hand will surely cause Good to seek to dominate the balance. Brothers, we must do whatever it takes to ensure the balance is not destroyed. If Evil must be destroyed completely and we cannot stop that, we must then ensure that we also cull the numbers of the Good that we may fill the void and maintain the balance. However, if we can maintain the balance without either side being overly harmed, this is our most peaceful outcome. But, you must know, brothers, Evil will seek you out because they understand what Good does not; it is WE who keep the hapless villagers safe from great powers of Evil through our ancient runes and incantations of balance.”

The robed figure leans into the light and focuses his glare, “ I also want to remind you that we have heard of a reporter asking questions about our brotherhood. The timing of this is as bad as it could be. It is in the interests of Balance that we identify this troublemaker and deal with him.”

I just signed upon Cassandra. I wrote "Who the heck is Cassandra, anyway?"

This game sounds interesting, and I like the people that are in it thus far. I hope for another good game, and can't wait to see where I get assigned!

Hopefully I don't screw up too much and give away my role D1.....

He's not kidding, I offered a hefty bribe for him to 'arrange things' but either naked pictures of Wood are so prevalent they have lost their value or he's earnest about the random thing.

What is the fun in killing Snaak day one? Also with no rabbit punching how is Kaldar is going to defend himself?

Thanks again to everyone for enrolling in this experimental 3-team game with a first-time mod. You're all very brave. Thanks also to Scott and Jeff for agreeing to help your n00b mod get through this. I'm really excited to see how this puppy will fly and I hope you all have a fabulous gaming experience. I will do my best to make it so.

The Cassandra Automatic Vote Tally System

Your Moderator has enabled the Cassandra Automatic Vote Tally system
for this game. In order for it to function correctly, your votes will
need to be formatted correctly. The following rules will explain what
you will need to do:

Players
1. All votes must be bolded

2. The entire vote statement must be bolded and enclosed in bracekts: [vote jmilum]

3. Only one vote per post.

4. If you [vote nightfall] your vote will be locked (voting
nightfall is allowed in the same post as a vote for a player, but it
must come after it, this does not violate Rule #3)

5. Vote tallies will be automatically posted to the game thread hourly
if the tally has changed. The Tally and Vote Logs (for each game day)
are also available on the Cassandra game page.

6. If your vote is not counted be sure to check the Vote Log page and
see if it was marked invalid and why.

7. Case does not matter and simple typos will not cause the vote to fail.

8. You may [vote no lynch] if your game allows it.

9. Non voting players will be listed in the tallies. This will only be
correct if the Moderator notes which players have been killed (see below)

10. Editing a vote post will invalidate the vote and it will not be counted.


Moderators
1. The moderator will need to post [Dawn] when the day begins
(after the night results are posted) and [Dusk] when the lynch
deadline has passed and the day is over. Votes will not be counted
after [Dusk] has been posted. They will be registered again
after [Dawn] is next posted.

2. You may include a day number in the dawn and dusk post for
informational purposes, but it will not be used by the system.
Cassandra will increment an internal counter each time it sees
[Dawn] no matter what day is shown in a dawn post (i.e.
[Dawn 3] the three is allowed but ignored)

3. After dusk has been posted, the Moderator may go to the game page
on Cassandra to request a Final Tally to be posted before the normal
scan period has elapsed (i.e. Game Y gets scanned at 45 min. after the
hour, if it lynches at 7pm the moderator may request a tally to be
posted from the game page before 7:45pm. it will also be posted
regardless of whether or not it has been changed since the last
posting) - Do this by clicking on the 'Retrieve Final Lynch Time Vote' link.

4. You will need to note which players were killed via the lynch or at night by
either posting [killed jmilum] in the thread, or by going to the game
page and editing the player list. When posting in the thread, be sure to post
[dusk] before posting the lynch kill, and post [dawn] before
posting the night kill.
Example:
A. lynch time has passed so post [dusk]
B. goto the game page and select a final tally to be posted
C. check the final tally and post [killed melsana]
D. after the night deadline has passed post [dawn]
E. post the night kill with [killed kima]
