I'm looking for suggestions for a good two player wargame. I'm new to wargaming and my buddy hasn't played in awhile. I would appreciate any good titles.

You might want to narrow your criteria down a bit by indicating ideal length, type (block vs card driven) if that matters, and if you have a preference concerning time period such as World War II. If you're not sure I'll mention a few that often get recommended:

Combat Commander: Europe
Memoir '44
Commands & Colors: Ancients
Hammer of the Scots
Twilight Struggle
Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage
Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! – Russia 1941-42

Welcome to BGG...

But first, some questions...

What is the time commitment you wish to make?
Can you leave the game setup overnight? for weeks at a time?
How complex?
What time and/or place in history?
Is SyFy an option? or Fantasy?
Do you have a preference for CDG or hex and counter?

Let's start with these. Then we can all give suggestions, paste links to GeekLists, etc.

I appreciate the suggestions! We're looking for something fairly in depth. We're into ww2, sci-fi, and fantasy. I would say counter and hex, but I'm not sure because my wargaming history us very limited.

More votes for:

Manoeuvre, Hold the Line, Commands & Colors: Ancients, Memoir '44

Good games for new and old wargamers alike. Pretty good selection for different eras of gaming as well.

Welcome to BGG and the greater wargaming world Joshua! thumbsup

My suggestion for people looking for a new 2 player wargame is World at War: Blood and Bridges. It's an alternate history WW3 game with fun, easy rules and lots of traditional wargame strategy. I think it's the real successor to classic games like Panzerblitz. It's loads of fun. Check it out.

A Victory Denied and the recently released A Victory Lost are both higher level (ie, strategic) games of the East Front in WW2 that are aimed at players who are just starting. I haven't played either of them, but I hear they are pretty good.

Good games, but neither are strategic, both are operational. They are reasonably large in scale and time commitment, but the rules are easy.
