Just about every President has a flap like this at some point in his career. Remember Reagan and his "We'll begin bombing in 5 minutes" thing? I don't think they quite get it that every minute of their life is documented.

I don't think the career impact of reporting the comments of the president during the off-the-record portion of the interview were well though out by Mr. Moran. I suspect he'll have trouble booking anyone more prominent than the city dog catcher.

Grow some balls, Mr. President. Be willing to call someone a jackass on national TV, if you think they're a jackass. Stop hiding what you really think.

Yes. The office of the President should be used to make fun of celebrities.

No, wait, that would be in Bizarro World.

I would have had more respect for the man if he HADN'T told the reporters to keep it quiet.

Nope. This was a perfect play. He gets to say what everyone wants to hear him say and then make believe he's careful with what everyone thinks he should say.

Moran was not the one doing the interview, it was John Harwood. Moran intercepted the remarks (I believe he works for a rival news organization) and then first reported it on Twitter.

The article I read didn't illustrate that difference. It doesn't change my opinion of Mr. Moran's future employment prospects however. It's unwise to break the code of conduct reporters live by, when you're trying to make a living as a reporter.
