I've seen similar threads posted here before. But I'm not sure I've seen one which asks this question.

If you had to sell all your wargames to buy food for your family, but you could keep just one! And only one!

Which game in your collection would you keep?

For me...has to be Ambush!. Its a game I can play anytime ...no need for an opponent...and with the expansions....there is tons of variety.

Couldn't I just kill the other families and feed my family with them? Oh, and take any wargames they have, too!

There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night, and if you go no one may follow, that path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, when there is no pebble tossed, nor wind to blow.

To seek the sacred river Alph, to walk the caves of ice, to break my fast on honey dew and drink the milk of paradise... I had heard the whispered tales of immortality, the deepest mystery, from an ancient book I took a clue.

Streets of Stalingrad (third edition) would probably be my choice...but it had better be the apocalypse for me to give up the rest of my precious collection. devil

If I sold all my Advanced Squad Leader gear except for the rulebook and Beyond Valor: ASL Module 1, I could feed the family for months. But I could never take that last step.

Well, for me it would be either Breakout: Normandy or Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage. Both games are fantastic.

I'll break the rules slightly and go with two: Afrika II and Thunder at the Crossroads II. I guess feeding the family will have to wait. Well maybe not, as I'd sell the table before I'd sell one of these games. The table should be worth enough to buy some groceries.

For me, it would be Conflict of Heroes: Storms of Steel! – Kursk 1943. This game is the first (and currently only) to have my name listed among the developer credits, so it will definitely always be special!

For me the first choice has to be World in Flames Final Edition.

But I would have a real hard time letting go of Fire in the East/Scorched Earth. Even The War Between the States would be tough.
I might be tempted to don the chainmail and roam about the neighborhood with my two handed and kill them and take their stuff to feed the family!

Oh, wait..... that's the other thread!?!

AH's The Longest Day

Haven't played it in years, but I'll still never part with it. Too many good memories of it being set up on the ping-pong table for literally months in my parent's basement.

And having visited the beaches in 1996, I was able to take pictures and match them up to locations on the map-the photos are still in the game box. I had the game with me, and kept up with where we were at on the gameboards!

Sure there are better games, more elegant systems, better art...but I have too much history tied up in the game, if the house was burning down, I'd probably try to save it!

Aggghhh what a tough choice, A game that holds fond memories or a game that means a lot personally or a game I know I will play more than any other. OK it has to be Ambush and can I hide the expansions

Ambush is one of those games that had a big influence on my gaming. My miniature rules were based heavily on Ambush. I now run an email man to man game using my adapted miniature rules. One of the maps has my daughter's scribblings on it from about 20 years ago and even though it never sees the light of day it would provide many hours of fun if it was the only game I owned.

Yup, AH's The Longest Day. I drifted out of wargaming in the mid-80s, but hung onto this one as the rest of my collection gradually disappeared. Dragged it with me through every move, and now into my second incarnation as a wargamer. I recycle games to buy new ones, but have never considered selling it. Look forward to the day when I again have the time and space to play it again.

It was my first wargame, and still one of my favorites. I can't believe I only paid $12 for it at a local hobby store, way back in the day. I found it when I was looking for Roco Minitanks, and it ruined me for life...
