I received the following message directly from the publisher today:
Quote:
Railways of the World just arrived at the warehouse, so it should be at distributors and stores in 3-7 days.

As for rule changes from Railroad Tycoon, I received confirmation that the rules already implemented in Rails of Europe and Railways of England are the same tweaks incorporated in Railways of the World. So the rules changes from Railroad Tycoon include:
● cost of $3000 for all hexes with water (no more "following the river" rule)
● shares can only be taken out when needing money for purchases
● choice of two Railroad Tycoon cards at the start of the game
● Passenger Lines card replaces New Train as starting Railroad Operations card
● major lines are permanently available (although cards are still included for those who want to play this aspect of the game the old Railroad Tycoon way)
In other words, it's not completely identical to Railroad Tycoon, and the differences are more than just new maps.

You'll find a brief introduction to the Railways of the World series, and a comparison between the city distribution, Railroad Operation cards, and rules of Railroad Tycoon and both its two expansions in this review of the Railways of England expansion for the game: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/445363

Edit: For a comprehensive pictorial comparison between the components and rules of the original Railroad Tycoon and the new Railways of the World, see this article:

So you're wondering about the new reimplementation of Railroad Tycoon, and how it compares with the original: A Pictorial Overview

What do you want to convert? The only thing you need are the passenger cards.

Buy Rails of Europe and/or Railways of England and all is fine.

A possibility to buy the new maps (especially the Eastern US) without buying the whole game would be nice.
I always have a problem with a desk, and it looks like the new map is somewhat smaller.

There is also no Mexico-Map in RRT. Rails of Europe / England are already playable with RRT.

Is it possible to buy the Mexico-Map alone?

You will be able to buy the Mexico and Eastern U.S. maps without buying the entire game. They will be available on the Eagle games website soon.

Both the maps of "Rails of Europe" and "Rails of England" have a little track at the buttom which can be used for displaying the order of play (I assume).
Did anything change about that point of the rules? Are the players placed along the track in the order they pass during the bidding of the first player phase?

So any hex with water (non river) now costs $3K? Won't that greatly change building to (among others) Toronto?

One other significant change: New Orleans is now only three hexes (instead of five) from Mobile. Looks like they cut off the bottom row of hexes of the the RRT map, opened up the Lake Pontchatrain hex for building, and moved the city's second exit from the SW to the NW. Anybody going to modify his RRT map to be the same?
