Hi all,

Somedays, you just can't win for the life of you, and sometimes it's really the draw of cards that killed you. Ever played someone who obviously wasnt thinking when they put down those inv. cards but still ended up with 8+ cards of that color?

Anyways, here is the variant to minimize change to gameplay:

When drawing from deck:

1. Draw 2 cards from the draw deck.
2. Keep the one you like, discard the other face down into a seperate discard pile.
3. When the first draw deck is gone, shuffle the face down discard pile and use this.

Game goes on as normal otherwise--last card = game end.

Think this would work/change anythign significantly?

All that is really going to do is boost the score of the game higher. If you want to make it interesting though perhaps this would work:...

Draw two cards...
Choose the one that you like and keep it.

BUT

If the card you didn't choose is part of one of your opponent's ongoing expeditions your opponent can choose to immediately play the card and that action would resolve before the start of their turn.

If the unchosen card isn't a part your opponent's ongoing expedition or they decide they don't want to use for an expedition they have started, (example: they played an investment card and a ten on the Himalayan expedition and the card you didn't choose was the two, they probably don't want to end that expedition yet) the card is then placed into a face-down discard pile and like Nat Li said, when the deck is drawn out, the discard pile is shuffled and then played from normally without the two-card draw. The lore behind this being: The explorers are exhausted and are nearly at the end of their expeditions and don't have the energy to push themselves for an advantage. Or something like that.

And if think that is too risky to play all the time. Choose to use the rule for a game and let the player choose every turn whether he wants to draw normally or use the draw-two variant. Risk/Reward

I like this idea of drawing two and forcing a discard and recycling the deck -- it seems like it would encourage more strategic discarding (vs hoarding, which happens in our games).
