What I don't get is why drinks of any kind are allowed in a library? They aren't allowed here! No food or drinks!

Pertaining to the article, I bet that one of the folks with the toddler group complained.

In my experience (as a parent), toddlers are far more hazardous to the elderly.

And also to the food service employee. Kids running around have nearly cause me to trip and fall while carrying something hot or heavy.

And this one time a toddler peed on my pastry case. Not that that's relevant.

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

If the "Over 50" coffee group has been meeting on Tuesdays for the last four years, and the toddlers only started three weeks ago, why can't the toddlers come on one of the other 5 or 6 days that the library is open?

Thanks for the PSA, Drew.

I was just drinking coffee about ten feet away from an open second floor window. How thoughtless! I'm pouring it down the drain now in case a catastrophic accident leads me to stumble into the window and spill it on a wee, errant passerby.

Next thing you know, they'll start banning books from the library. Everyone knows they could easily slide off a shelf and onto the noggin of a wee one as s/he runs down an aisle.

In my perfect world, libraries would be paid-admittance only, and all the books would be kept in closed stacks, to be retrieved for patrons as necessary. There would be no computers, no reference desk, and certainly no popular DVDs.

Of course, I'm a little biased.

Probably they don't like to see old people. Or a mother\father who is just too silly. I agree with MMB that drink + library is a big no-no, but that is discrimination of the highest kind.

The "Coffee?? In a Library?" thing caught my eye too.

I think we need to banish all the health and safety people and start removing warning labels before this stuff gets out of hand. I bought a Piano the other day and it had a label on it that said "Harmful or Fatal if Swallowed."

many book stores have coffee shops, I suspect that the library has a coffee area also
... the picture on the web link showed a mature man sitting at a table with his beverage

maybe the real story here is that they want the table space for the rug rats ..so they are not in the book aisles
and they used the hot coffee as an excuse to send the seniors packing soblue

Our library has a coffee nook, with a few chairs to sit. It is in the basement, as are the children's books.
