To summarize it shortly: in fact there isn't really any difference between www.boardgamegeek.com and boardgame.geekdo.com

They both present you the same content, the same menu's and features (except the quickbar, which isn't available on geekdo). It (the content) is all in one database.

As you can see there are differences in presentation and layout, although both sites have the same touch-'n'-feel.

The advantage (or disadvantage, I don't want to open that discussion here) of geekdo, is that you can easily switch between the board game part en the role play game part (rpg.geekdo.com) of the site, using the buttons on the second line on top of every page.

Board Game Geek is the classic site.

Geekdō is the new umbrella site which has a board game section (tying into the BGG database), and an RPG (Role Playing Game) section, and will eventually have a video game section.

Right now, Geekdō has some things more easily found than on BoardGameGeek.com, but BGG has a few more features. Pretty much you can use whichever you wish, but be aware that each domain (___.com) maintains its own login status (via cookies).

Myself, I use some of the BGG features that haven't gotten over to Geekdō yet, so I use BGG except when I want to access RPG information.

Eventually, I think the plan is to have BoardGameGeek, com forward to BoardGame.geekdo.com, as RPGGeek forwards to RPG.geekdo.com.

Dō is Japanese for "The Way", as in judo (a martial art formerly called jujitsu, characterized by using your opponent's motion against him) or kendo (fighting with bamboo swords, simulating katana)..

If you play too much with Geekdo, little colored bits will be left behind and your hands will smell funny. Oh, and while you can eat it, it's not very tasty.

What color do you want to play?

Why was it determined that log-ins had to be separate?

How do you know that it was determined?

Username/passwords are the same, but you have to login to each site separately due to the way browsers control cookies (to keep your private data private).

(I'm just guessing...)

You'd have to login seperately to www.bgg.cc if you went over there. Think of it this way, now all your sock puppet accounts can be logged in at once.

Because in designing a website, EVERYTHING is a decision. Unlike buying a building and just letting the concrete floor stay, say, concrete, these things MUST be "determined". Someone has to toggle a function, check a box or write a line to tell the site EVERYTHING.

Thanks for not helping at all.

Thanks Mike! Probably a decent guess, but I was looking for a meatier "Why?" Mebbe someone will know.

I'd like to more easily interact with geekDo and its annoying each time i get a link that carries me over there, that I have to log in separately.

My sock-puppet fingers are too old and tired.
