My wife and I are about a year into board gaming.
We own and love:
Dominion
Puerto Rico (we love it 2 players)
Carcassonne (we own just about every expansion)
Stone Age
Pandemic

We own Thurn and Taxis, although we are not as big of fans.

I'm making an order and need another game to push it over the magical $100 free shipping mark.
We're getting:
Dominion: Intrigue
Pandemic: On the Brink
Hive

I'd like a game with a new mechanic to keep our small collection varied. Kingsburg and Snow Tails both look interesting. 90% of our gaming is 2-player, and we like the opion to play with more.

Here are a couple of suggestions.

ROMA - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/16496
A friend recently showed me this and I love it. Simple, good strategy and games can be fast.

Monoploy Deal - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/40398
This is an all around fun card game. Even gamrs will play because of the familar theme. Games are quick.

Ghost Stories - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/37046
If you like Pandemic and co-op type games you'll like this one! Also can be played solo.

Hope this helps!

We've recently been playing quite a bit of Biblios and Murdero, both of which are excellent 2-player games IMO.

My wife and I love two-player games and threads like this have helped us find our favorites, so I guess it's time to stop lurking...

Roma is AWESOME (after some working-in) download the cheat sheet and go!

Mr. Jack was our first real game and we still like it a lot. It will actually get my heart pounding as the rounds finish!

CIA vs KGB SO MUCH FUN! You can tailor the points needed to win to fit your schedule.

We've played Call of Cthulhu a few times so far, but it's been hard getting Mrs. Asamov into it. Plus, I keep feeling like I'm playing MTG or Yugio (not that there's anything wrong with that...) BTW, it's not a 40 min game. Oh hell no.

You'll love Hive!
Catan Card is good
Bonnie & Clude is pretty fun
Odin's Ravens is also fun (and beautiful)

Good Luck!

My wife's current favorite quick 2 player games:

Ra: The Dice Game
Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper
Micro Mutants: Evolution - I originally bought this to play with the kids. I had no idea my wife would like it so much.

Some other 2 player games that are playing a lot right now:
Steam - I printed/laminated the Scotland map at Kinko's for about $5
Yspahan
Race for the Galaxy
Court of the Medici

Some other games we have enjoyed playing 2 player:

Attika - one of my favorite under an hour games for 2 players.
Thebes
Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries
Neuroshima Hex!
Aton
Metropolys
Ra
Mr. Jack
Memoir '44 - didn't think my wife would like this as much as she does.

I'll put in a second for Yspahan. We like this much better than Kingsburg. More varied ways to victory, and plays well with two.

Do you have an auction game? We just discovered Palazzo and are very taken by it. A very subtle game of valuation and timing that works beautifully with two, a rarity for auction games.

I second (or third or fourth or whatever) Roma - really interesting use of dice.

and also Mr. Jack - this is different from any of the other games you have.

Battle Line is a great two player game, and cheap.

Can't go wrong with many of the Kosmos two-player series, but our favorite is Jambo.

If you're looking for a new mechanic to add to your collection, I'd suggest either Ubongo (2-4 players) or Ubongo: Duel (2 player only). Simultaneous puzzle-solving mechanic using Tetris-like pieces. Terrific fun, and very quick to play. And, Ubongo: Duel has a cool balancing mechanic if there's a big disparity between the players' skill levels.

Campaign Manager 2008 would probably be great for you guys (when it comes out next monthish). I have actually played it, so I can genuinely suggest it.

Also, Balloon Cup is one of our absolute favorites for a lighter 2-player evening game.

Edit: Just realized you wanted a suggestion for a current order - so I guess Campaign Manager 2008 doesn't work... but still highly suggest Balloon Cup...

I've been playing many 2p games lately and looking for more titles, so thanks for this thread!
Here are some of my favorites:

Jambo is really a great game. The other player did not see it as great until he thought about it. Now he's all for it too.

Babel is also great. A well matched round might take a long time, but I didn't think that detracts.

(the above are part of the Kosmos 2p set. If you're looking over these, I'd go down to the reviews and read those before you decide. The games I've played of these really have a great deal of depth that seems to be lost on the overall BGG rank.)

Hanging Gardens is great as a 2 or more player game. It is very different as a 3-4 player than 2 but plays well either way.

lost cities is okay, but I'm not really sure about re-playability.

Good Luck

The game itself isn't important. Spending time intellectually jousting with likeminded folks is the real reason to game.

Ingenious, Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries, the obvious Lost Cities, Citadels, and Mr. Jack are all pretty far mechanic-wise from anything you've listed there, they all work well for two players, they're all under one hour, and they're all deeply enjoyed around these parts.

Just a quick comment on one that you're looking at. I'm definitely a fan of Snow Tails BUT the more I play, the more I notice that more than a few players have suffered from analysis paralysis as they ponder their best moves, and it stops feeling like a RACE.

So, if you're considering a racing game, jump over to Powerboats and read some of the reviews.
