My girlfriend was talking about purchasing a scented candle that smells like beer as a joke item for the gift exchange at her company Christmas party.

How about a scented candle that recreates the smell of a new game?

I approve of that...I thought you'd suggest scented candles that smell like gamers...

It's "musk."

This one is a non-starter for liability reasons. When you light the candle, you recreate the smell of a new game on fire, which is guaranteed to cause panic, injuries, & property damage as BGGers throw themselves through the nearest window with games clutched to their chests.

Depends on the game. There's potential for candles that smell like Kamon or Krakow. But I think a candle that smelled like Nexus Ops would be puketacular.

I would buy a candle that smells like new Magic (or other CCG) cards.

Somehow if you could package the experience of unshrinking the box, that first magical moment when you lift the cardboard/plastic/wood out of the box and start to sort out the physicality of the game. Of course, that might just be what I like about board gaming in general...

But you know, if there were a scented candle guaranteed to eliminate the gamer funk in the air, it'd sell like hotcakes.

That's why sometimes I'd rather play solo games.

and finding a big package left on your front porch and unpacking it..

and reading the rules for the first time....

This is why I try not to beat myself up too much over buying so many games over the years that hardly get played even with the best intentions to do so. You just can't put a price on those magic first moments.

The solution, then, is to put new games through a shredder and make gamer potpourri! Set it out in little card trays throughout the house!
