10.2.2 says that supply lines can be of any length, but that they can't pass through enemy ZOCs, across unbridged major river hexsides, etc. It doesn't say anything about hexes which no friendly units have ever moved through or exerted a ZOC into; is the intent that you can or can't trace a supply line deep through enemy territory?

(e.g. in the turn 2 supply check, the Germans have units which have crossed the Dnepr, but the Soviets still control the bridges, and have ZOCs across the "land bridge"; can those German units trace a supply line east, then curving north behind Smolensk, eventually crossing the Dvina at Polotsk?)

Can is your answer. Isolated is more about the combat effect of having units completely surrounding you - and not so much about getting oil/arms to a unit. In this campaign, the Germs were bypassing sovs left and right and they are in small packets everywhere...the placing of OOS markers is more about actual supply to units.
