Tomorrow (Friday) at 8:00pm Eastern US time.

I'll be teaching OCS (Operational Combat System) for complete newbies via Vassal and using Skype. If you don't use Vassal, get it! If you don't use Skype, get it! I won't be typing stuff out, so you'll need to be on Skype to hear what's going on.

I'll use the Tunisia module for this learning experience, so (you know it's coming) get it! Module is here:

http://vassalengine.org/community/index.php?option=com_vassa...

All OCS rules are always available here:

http://www.gamersarchive.net/theGamers/archive/

To get in on this, you merely have to run the Tunisia module in Vassal and "search for an online game". My name on Vassal is JasonR and I'll be there in a room called "Learn OCS". Enter the room and right click on my name. Choose "sync" to get your pieces to match mine.

I'll be setting up a Skype conference call which can handle up to 24 people at once. If you wish to get in on this tutorial, please send me your Skype info (by Geekmail) well before Friday at 8:00. It is easiest to run the conference call if I have everyone in my contact list beforehand. Then when you enter the Vassal room I can just pop you into the conference call.

This learning experience will be geared toward complete newbies who don't know how to trace supply or how to fuel up their Panzer divisions and overrun hapless infantry. I'll run through all the basics first.

We'll see where that leads and I'll be happy to answer advanced questions as well. I'm an experienced OCS player and have played all of the OCS titles.

Cheers,
Jason

Great idea, wish someone would do this with the rest of the Gamers series, i.e. TCS, SCS.

Thanks for your service to the community Jason.

Would that be worth doing with no sound? And if so, how does one capture a screencast?

to do: get set up with Skype by tomorrow...

to try: catch this.

I've played one learning mission in DAK2, no rules read, fast explanation, confusing...learned supply was massive puzzle maddening fun, came away thinking this may be a fantastic system. I don't mean that lightly.

I really want to learn this.

If you want any help let me know. I might make it there if I am free. I can record it if you want? I taught OCS to paul the other day, I think it is definitely game explainable.

I would not do it without sound. On Linux, I'd use Istanbul for capturing screencasts.

Screen Capturer does handle sound.

Hopefully, I will be able to attend (still getting the hang of OCS playing DAK in the EWR).

Expecting Case Blue to arrive via trade in a week too....

Hey Colin,

That would be great if you could record it. I'll have enough going on trying to coordinate the Skype call. I have a feeling there will be a bit of chaos with that for the first 10-20 minutes.

I don't know what you have to say, it makes no difference anyway: whatever it is, I'm against it!

Jason, if I can make it, I'll be there with screen capturing software in tow. I've been trying to perfect a capturing method with the various GMT demos, but haven't quite got it down pat. The problem I've run into is twofold, resulting in very large videos: 1) the demos are usually quite long; 2) due to the nature of wargaming, it's hard to downsize the resolution without losing essential detail.

If anyone has strategies for solving either/both of those problems, let me know!

I can also do a VASSAL log combined with an audio-only recording, which I've done for a few of the GMT demos.

Great job Jason!!

About 20 wargamers tuned in to Jason's excellent tutorial.

We had some Skype problems, but Jason didn't miss a beat and just typed all his explanations.

Hopefully he can organize this again for anyone who missed it.

Again, great job.
