I dunno what "best" means here. I voted for the one I enjoy the most.

In the second half, I couldn't bring myself to vote for something that was misspelled, so I didn't vote

neither do I, i made this as an exercise to make a poll and present the info in a more clear mannor. I think ASL will win because of its devout croud probably followed by Combat Commander which I wish to try.

You left out many of the options listed in the comments of your previous post.

Your poll mixes time periods (WWII and modern) and scales (platoon and squad level) but fails to include many options from other periods of time and other scales.

What about PanzerBlitz and the original Squad Leader? I couldn't participate in your poll since I have never played any of the games listed.
And Panzerblitz should be part of any poll about tactical level games.

again, this is not my poll, It is a re-implementation of the other post to make it more usefull. There are missing items and it is cross boundries but I think that the basis was for a wargame system.

I dont think panzer blitz was included because it is not 'new'. I think ASl was included because it is almost the standard. I dont know why World at War was included in the first place.

Agricola - not a tactical war game
Space Hulk - not a tactical war game

New doesn't always mean better. And your question says "at the moment". Panzerblitz is still here at this moment!

Yup. A brilliant tactical game by any standards ... and it's free too boot.

100% agree. I'm new to miniatures but bought these rules for Arty's brilliant initiative system and utterly stunning simplicity. I don't think I could ever play even a great hex-based chit game like CC, CoH or even V&V again without trying to hack Arty's initiative system into them (to get rid of the I go, you go ... ugh).

Besides being limited to WWII/modern, this poll also ignores other dimensions of tactical combat, mainly air and naval (and, I suppose, space). Perhaps it should be retitled?

It's an interesting question, but I did not vote in the first part. I voted "waste of time" in the second part, not to be mean spirited, but because that was how the wording was. My opinion is that it is apples and oranges. Someone else already pointed out that "best" is ill-defined. But putting that aside, the games are really dis-similar, and that's a good thing. Panzer Grenadier is platoon-based, for one thing; ASL is heavily tank-oriented while Combat Commander doesn't have any. Conflict of Heroes uses cards while ATS is dice-heavy. etc.

These are good things. We should embrace the fact that there are so many different styles of game, rather than pit them against each other, in my opinion. There will never be THE ONE which everyone flocks to, though some seem to think their favourite game at the moment is that one. There is no denying the commercial success of ASL, nor the reputation it deservedly has acquired for quality of design and research, nor its large following. But it would be foolish to try and either insist that any game, regardless of pedigree, is "the best" since they are not only matters of opinion, but they all have something of value to add to the, for lack of better words, body of literature that we are still continuing to create.

What about this pool : What's your favourite WW2 (squad level or platoon or both) Tactical game? This could resolve some problem... also if i think that the results would be the same. ;)

I own all of those systems, and enjoy them all tremendously, as tactical wargames are my favorite. So it's sort of like asking, "which one of your children do you like the best!"

I've played Squad Leader but, not ASL. I've played Combat Commander extensively. The others I have not played ergo any vote by me would be pointless. You might be better off qualifying your voters by who has played these games.

In addition, I agree with other posters who point to a mix of time period and scale. These comparisons just aren't that useful.
