Ok, we now have several games behind us and I can´t hardly remember any injury! Why? I think, that the odds of suffering an injury are very bad (good for the teams, but bad for reality). Hockey is a tough sport and injuries are not rare.
So let´s have a look on the board:
There is only one space, where one of your players could suffer an injury. But there are two spaces, which let you remove one player from the injury list (one with and one without a roll of dice). Furthermore the deck contains four event cards, which you can use for healing.
The game content offers you a whole bunch of injury markers, which you rarely need.
Here is our variant:
After any match each of both team managers has to make a seperate "injury roll" of 2W6. When doubles 1 or 6 are rolled (odds: 1:18), one of your first six players was injured within the last match. In that case roll 1W6: 1 = a goalie, 2-3 = a defender, 4-6 = a forward was injured. Roll another 1W6 (except goalie for sure) to determine, which player was hit -> defense 1-3, 4-6, forward 1-2, 3-4, 5-6.
Furthermore every time a team passes the starting field make a separate (!) 2W6 "injury roll" too, resulting in the same effect as after a match.
With this variant you are - against the card text - allowed to keep the healing cards, which you draw out of the deck. If you want, you are even allowed to trade them at once or later.
So try it out. You´ll see, that the injury tokens become more useful in the future. And see our other variant, which improves the odds of playing a match. We had lots of fun combining these variants!
Just to be sure: Hockey is a tough sport ...
