Greetings and Best Wishes

I am really happy to announce that we are going ahead with the weekend camp in late November. I hope people are interested, and I'd like to see as many of you as would like to come.

What is it?
The Not-Camp (we don't actually camp, we stay inside) is a great excuse to get out of Melbourne and relax. Play boardgames, walk along the Yarra, or drink some wine and simply be social. Think of it as a weekend-long party at someone else's house.

The camp is just north of Woori Yallock, off the Warburton Highway. It is approximately 90 minutes from the city by car, maybe a bit more in peak hour.

You can find a little about the site here.

What's it like?
In brief: we hire a "school" campsite for a weekend. People come and stay, they have a good time. cool

The campsite comprises a dining hall and attached kitchen, which is the focal point and main venue for games. There is a smaller room in a separate building for groups that want to avoid distractions.

There is sleeping accommodation for approximately 25 people in a second building. There are 4-6 bunks in each of 5 rooms. Blankets are provided but no other bedding - bring sheets, a pillow and pillowcase, and possibly a sleeping bag. The bedrooms are typical for a highschool camp - heavy wood bunks and durable mattresses.

The shower/bathroom block is 10m from the accommodation building, and there is a good hot water system.

How do you get there?
Drive East out of Melbourne - the simplest route involves the Maroondah Hwy, but it has by far the worst traffic. Alternatives include the Eastern Ring Rd / Ferntree Gully Rd / and Dorset Rd. Whichever route you choose, your aim is to connect with the Warburton Hwy. Continue East along the Warburton Highway until arriving at Woori-Yallock, then turn left at the traffic lights. The Camp is then another 1600m (there is a sign that's easy-to-see).
On this map the entrance is close to the letter H in "Healesville - Koo-wee-rup Rd".

What should you bring?
Well, yourself and any friends you can con into coming along, obviously
What else? A sleeping bag, pillows and blankets as you deem necessary for your own comfort - there is no linen on the beds at all, so make sure you bring something to sleep in. Towel and toiletries. Games and other entertainments. Sunscreen and a hat!

Food
Basic breakfast and lunch ingredients are provided, but you are expected to prepare food (and clean-up) for yourself. Dinner is at your own expense, either at one of several nearby hotels, or there is take-away available. Please bring anything special that you want to eat or drink. Although simple ingredients are provided for breakfast and lunch, you might want to supplement this, especially with snacks and beverages. Fridge space is available, and alcohol is permitted on site. There is a reasonably good supermarket and bottleshop in Woori-Yallock, but they close at 9pm.

Activities
People may show up at various times on the Friday night (after 6pm please). Some choose to arrive after eating at home or en route, others bring food and eat dinner at the site. Friday night gaming is encouraged, but people should also feel free to relax, socialise and get to know people.

Saturday is spent chillin': boardgaming, cards, and easy relaxed conversation are encouraged. There are nearby walking tracks along the Yarra, and if the weather is suitable there is space for bocce, kubb or croquet. Several houses are within earshot, so we try to keep noise down after about 9pm.

Sunday is spent recovering from Saturday, slowly getting stuff together, cleaning up and heading off back to Melbourne in the mid-afternoon.

Conclusion
Please come along - it should be fun.
If anyone has any questions, please contact me via ludo@bigpond.com.au
(I might not see replies posted here).

Cheers,

Rob

Well! That's a new thought...

Special Deal for International Gamers!
I'm not sure how we'll manage it (Tullamarine airport is in the other direction), but if anyone flies to Melbourne and needs transport from Tulla' to Woori Yallock, we'll pick you up at the international gate.
Lurid commentary about the dangers of Australian wildlife will be provided to all international guests, and embellished without mercy by every local, see here. ninja

NB: Offer does not extend to New Zealanders. You guys can get a lift into the city - we'll collect you from City Backpackers like usual.

Rob,

Are you keen to put up a list of those who have registered? (I think I remembered to register, did Mel?)

Let me know if you'd like me to start a geeklist of games people are bringing/want to have someone else bring.

Randy -

You and Mel are both registered, but apart from Erin and me there are no other 'geeks on the list! Spruiking at EGF is getting nowhere. Situation might change. I'm blitzing email later this week - been chasing stuff for Arcanacon.
