Hi all,

here's a little project I've been working on for a while now and finally finished just in time for 3rd ed. I'm using these as proxies for Terminators and Genestealers - makes for a really fun game.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Oooh, this feels much more natural to the theme for me then those skull fetishists with book fixtures on their heads.

But re-theme only works until you start discussing CC weapons and psi-abilities...

Well, theme-wise I utterly hate the Librarian and he is my number one argument to anyone who actually takes Warhammer universe seriously. Unless his main selling point is that the Genestealers simply die from laughter an masse after seeing this guy's getup.

Gameplay-wise though, he's awesome. So I would put special effort into creating some android/new technology prototype/whatever to still keep him in.

nice stuff! the only one i recognise is the old style cadian flamer chap tho. what are the others made of?
there's a model company called Hasslefree Miniatures who make a sprue of 5 25-28mm KWS1a pulse rifles.
and yup they are in fact the M41a in 25-28mm scale.
they also do mp5's, mac10 subs, G36k's and other assorted sci-fi sprues.
WELL worth the buying IMO.

for fun they also do 25-28mm hockey sticks, cricket bats, shotguns and chainsaws for your zombie killer gangs

Where did you get the Miniatures?

I would be very interested if anybody sells a "replacement" pack for the Space Hulk completely over the top exagerated miniatures.

I totally agree with the fellow above who proxied in the same stats for different weapons.

Peace

I really like the AT-43 UNA Star Troopers: http://www.miniaturemarket.com/inc/sdetail/99208

If I were to do an Aliens-esque variant, I'd use these guys as my colonial marines.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. The majority of the figs are from a range called Future Wars by Copplestone Castings (sometimes referred to as EM-4). The exceptions are Bishop and Drake with a flamer (standard Cadians), Ripley and Newt (minis by Hasslefree Miniatures), and Vasquez (conversion using Future Wars female trooper body and left arm, Escher Heavy gun and Escher Juve head +Greenstuff).

I have a Predator mini from Horroclix, too, which I may end up repainting and using in some capacity. As for the Librarian, I am currently using Bishop as a stand-in. I figure there are technological reasonings for all his powers, and so who better than an "artificial person" to play the role?

Dirk's ideas for 'counts as' rules are pretty much spot on - I've got labels on the back of each of the specialist's bases to make it clear to everyone playing who is who. Works fairly well so far (I've had no complaints!).

It's ripped of directly from Starship Troopers which has been taken pretty seriously (ripped off by everyone) as far as fictional unverses, even won a hugo.

I'd like to hear your librarian argument goes about how silly the warhammer universe is.

I can't believe I must explain why the notion of a guy wearing an armor with a frikkin three-feet high book fixture on his head and a bunch of parchments stuck on like post-it notes is silly.

not sure on the books myself though? i mean i understood the preacher models carrying books or reading litanies as they wander into battle etc. fair doos on that front but i don't get the librarian guy's book?

anyhoo, this is what happens when you start going a bit overboard on the purity seals!

But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you… And I will beat you.

Peace (Not WAR!!)

I have these figures as I have them for the same purpose. Just have not got as far as painting my marines yet. I’ve been working on re-basing my Wizkids Aliens and getting my Queen based. Here are the links for where the Marines come from: (view the troopers)

Copplestone’s Future War Figs
http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/range.php?range=FW

…and here is where you can get Ripley (Signee) & Newt (Billey):

Hasslefree Miniatures:
http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/range.php?range_id=33

Bishop & Drake 2 are from GW’s Cadian Impy Guard.

Egg & Egg Victim I have no clue where they came from.

Brother Jim cool

P.S. Peace will come after our Lord comes back!!

Correct on all counts, Jim (I posted the list earlier in the thread, btw). The egg is greenstuff and the victim is a GW zombie strapped to a piece of Necromunda bulkhead with lots of greenstuff.

Pretty simple, really.

What kind of mesh did you use for the flooring? I'm wanting to find something like that but haven't found anything good yet.

Really like the victim you customed, BTW.

PeteGray,

I made the same type of bases using screen for windows or doors. Use the fiberglass type, not the metal type, as it is flatter and much easer to cut. I bought a 1" (25.4mm) circle cutter from a scrapbook store to cut them out, then superglued to base and trimmed excess with small scissors.

Just to complete the set, I've repainted a Horroclix Predator. I put it on a plasticard base, as he's a lot taller than the Marines, so putting him on a thinner base goes some way towards lessening the difference. Might use him as my Librarian...

Looks Very Nice. I have the same figures and plan to use them in an Aliens variant someday. But I do not think you need to make him shorter for the marines. Re-watch the first Predator movie and you will see the Predator towers over Duke. They are meant to be larger than t puny human...

Thanks, but the size difference was truly ridiculous, even looking at the original films. This way it's a bit more reasonable. Anyone got any ideas how to incorporate a 3rd player into the mix using the Predator? I'm gonna use him as my Marine Librarian, but also would like to have a 3 player AvP game sometime.

The most important thing about using the predator has to be his cloaking device, so you want to be looking at a system where you have multiple blips on the board but only one is actually the predator. You could either have one marked as the predator and the rest are blank, or you can be truly evil (and true to the movies) and say the predator gets to decide which blip is the predator at the point it is revealed.

If there were say (now I am thinking as I type) 3 predator blips. At any time the predator player can reveal a blip as the predator to do a few killings, and the other blips are removed from the board. For 4AP he can become invisible again (put one blip where the model was and bring on two more blips at any entry point). Any of the three blips could now be the predator, not just the one where he was standing before. You would need to customise the maps to introduce predator entry points.

If a blip was involuntarily revealed, it would not be the predator - just a blank. Remove the blip and put it back on the predator entry space of your choice. Basically - only the predator player can reveal the predator UNLESS there is only one predator blip on the board (the others are on entry points) in which case the blip MUST be the predator and is revealed.

Predators have a host of weapons, but you might want to streamline that to just his shoulder cannon (works as assault cannon with limited ammo?) and razor disc (close combat weapon that can also be used as a weaker ranged weapon with a range of 6, roll two dice and kill on a 6?).

If the predator is finding it difficult to hide, then you might need 5 blips instead of 3, but 3 sounds good in practice. The good guys have to attempt to reveal all the blips at the same time in order to get the predator put on the board in a weak position so they can kill him.

You might need to come up with a hard to kill rule as the predator plays solo - maybe a "second life" represented by his ability to use a medipack to heal his first wound.

Just some thoughts...

These are some great ideas. I think I'd need to come up with some special scenarios to give the Marines, Aliens and Predator their own unique objectives, though. I can see a Predator who decides to take out the Marines being a real pain in the butt in a standard mission.

Oh - that's easy. Predator is a hunter. He wants to kill the best prey.

He wants the skull of one Librarian and one broodlord (I mean - your variants for whatever they are).
