Where would I find a list of all board game conventions in the state set by dates? And how do I find out the size of them, say ones that bring in at least 300, 400, 500, 1000 people to them.

I know GenCon is the biggy at 28,000+
and Origins is next with over 13,000

what are the next 34 biggest cons in the states, or maybe 5?

I was dreaming of just gaming for a few months next year and was interested in hitting a few cons as we travel.

Any help - thanks in advance

DrFlanagan - thanks, I new GC and origins are the 2 biggies.

How many people got to the other 3?

I don´t think WBC is that big , number of people wise, if my memory serves me well this morning?

See this text? It's a gratuitous waste of GeekGold.

The game itself isn't important. Spending time intellectually jousting with likeminded folks is the real reason to game.

The biggest "con" I can think of is paying $100 for Space Hulk.

Ba-dump-CHING!

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, I'll be here all night!

In terms of CONVENTIONS, though, Essen and GenCon would be the two big ones, with Origins coming up next. In my opinion, unless you're just a convention addict, those would be the ones I would actually travel and stay in a hotel to attend.

After those three .... I'd probably just stick to ones that were local enough that my head could hit my own pillow.

I would CONSIDER going to other conventions (esp. BGGcon) if I had another reason to be in the area, of course.

...oh, I'm sorry, you mean conVENTIONS, not conVICTS! My bad!

*digs around a bit*

...ah, here it is, and right from BGG, a list of conVENTIONS!

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/Game_Conventions

Of these, the biggest/best are probably:
Origins
Gencon
WBC
BGG.CON

Essen is huge of course, but it's more of a publishers fair than a gaming convention.

I think the official headcount for this year was around 1500.

Norman - thanks, that is bigger then I thought it was, 1,500 is a good number of gamers gathered together.

Trent - Space Hulk sold out so quick, I am guessing you would have to shell out more then $100 to get it?

Leo - thanks for the link

I have a Google Calendar that I maintain:

It lists important national cons as well as regional (Midwest) ones.

I just went back to verify, but I can't seem to find the official count. All they say is that it was record attendance.

I know (from pre convention postings), that there were almost 1100 people pre-registered for the convention. An additional 300+ (especially weekend passes) wouldn't be any stretch at all.
