Hello All,

Heccubus here to tell you about the Second Annual BGG.CON 2009 Photo Safari Contest. It is taking place on Friday November 20 from 3PM to 5PM in the Sunnyside Room. There will be a sign up sheet at the event but post here if you are interested in participating. Prizes will be awarded to all members of the winning team.

Here are the rules:

2009 BGG.con Photo Safari

The 2009 Photo Safari is a creative and challenging team event in which teams of 4-6 people create rebus puzzles whose "answers" are the titles of games.

To participate each team needs to have at least one digital camera (sorry, cameras that use Smart Card memory cards won't work in our printers).

A rebus puzzle is a representation of words in the form of pictures. Here is an example:

You can write symbols and letters on your puzzles to modify your images. We would prefer that you don't photograph or write words... unless they clarify the images.

Here are some other examples:

Teams will have up to two (2) hours to make as many rebuses as they want from an official list of game titles provided. In addition to the game list, you will also receive a packet with craft supplies, as well as vouchers to print up to fifteen (15) photos to create your entry. This means that while you can take as many pictures as your memory card will hold, you can use no more than fifteen photos to make all of your rebuses, so plan carefully before you print.

Each game title will be worth one (1) point. However, you can score up to six (6) bonus points by being creative. The more "fun" your photos are for the clues, the more points your rebuses will be worth. Including members of your group in your photos will make your puzzles more valuable. Photos of objects, items, people, game components, etc. are more valuable than photos of just words and/or game boxes. Keep in mind that there is no limit to how many titles you can try to illustrate - you can do just one, or go for fifteen or more - but most of your points are going to come from bonus points. Ingenuity, creativity, embarrassment, making the judges laugh, etc. will be rewarded.
After you print your photos, each team will make a giant poster with all their rebus puzzles on it. Please do not write the actual game names on the poster - list them on the form provided - as we will be displaying all team posters before the winners are announced, so that everyone can play along.

Winners will be announced at the Grand Prize Ceremony at 7:00PM on Saturday.

(Example answers: Can't Stop, Hermagor, and King of the Elves)

Just wanted to check in and say that I really enjoyed the Photo Safari contest, even if our team didn't win.

And thank you as well for keeping it to a short time frame. It was pretty cool (in my mind, lol) that I was able to participate in something fun, and it lasted about the length of playing any other game.

Nicely done. Looking forward to it again next year!

Our team just had too many good ideas to put them all on the poster in time (we even left out Monk-key L-ab!). Next time: we concentrate, delegate, allocate - then celebrate. Like a well-oiled machine. Or we could just have frantic fun like this time.
